Seeking Thanksgiving Day suggestions

Ruggles will be closed on Thanksgiving, and I just wondered if anyone
could kindly recommend places that stay open and are walkable from campus.
The serveries will be closed.

Thanks --

One of my favorite restaurants, Benjy's, in the Rice Village vicinity is open for Thanksgiving from 11 - 4. welcome to benjy's restaurant But note that they have a special Thanksgiving menu and it's pretty pricey -- $47/per person (not including taxes and tip). thanksgiving lunch at benjy's

If Benjy's is open on Thanksgiving, I'd definitely check it out. We 'discovered' Sunday brunch at Benjy's recently when visiting our son on campus, and were highly impressed - what a gem!! You might check on reservations, though - apparently many other folks already know what a fine place it is. We sat at the upstairs bar and had brunch - that was great, as well.

Benjy's sounds great -- thanks! But it really could seriously dent a student budget!
Is anything mentioned in this article near campus and worth considering?

None of those restaurants are within walking distance. There are a few that are downtown and could be reached via the light rail, but it looks like their set Thanksgiving menus are more expensive than Benjy's.

Thanks, BlackeyedSusan,

Oh, they'll figure something out and have a fun holiday! Early Thanksgiving wishes to all!
And good luck to all our ED applicants!

I think some colleges may have things happening for those stuck on campus (Martel is trying to organize something), but that's if you don't mind hanging out with these people and their cooking.

Yeah, you should see whether your masters or fellow students are organizing something. Two of the students at Lovett are cooking a full Thanksgiving dinner for people who are staying. Alternatively, you should see if any of your friends who live in Texas would be willing to take you along with their families.

We used to live close to Rice, our favorites in Rice Village were Istanbul Grill Home Page and Jason's Deli Jason's Deli

Okay, here's another thought -- if they have access to an oven to warm things up, La Madeleine (there's one in Rice Village) is offering a Thanksgiving Feast to go. It's $85 and feeds up to 8 (although that's probably means 4 - 6 college students).

Jason's will be closed (but thanks, Highland Mom) and BlackeyedSusan, it looks like
La Madeleine might work! They close at 2 -- the $85 feast could (at least partially) feed his pals. Thanks so much, BES!

That sounds like a wonderful event. Too bad it's not on Thanksgiving! I'm a little surprised there's not a servery open, for the students who stay behind, though I understand that those employees want the day off, too. My daughter's roommate isn't going home for Thanksgiving, but has been invited to spend it with her organic chem teacher, so I've decided to stop worrying about her. (-:
