Nah, GA, you're just off. Africans usually have a culture that's more academically inclined. That's about it.

biggest stereotype: the television's portrayal of black americans........ it is something that is seen everyday and in a negative way... and the sad part is when black americans begin to emulate that stereotype...

alchemy.... look a the website i posted and look at the stats........ the numbers prove it. and u can't beat numbers.

"The percentage of all foreign-born blacks over 25 years old with a bachelor’s degree is 25 percent, compared with 16 percent of native-born blacks (U.S. Bureau of the Census 2004).”

“Blacks of immigrant origin earn a significantly higher score on the SAT (1250) compared with their native counterparts (1193), though both are well below the score for whites (1361).”

GA, one of my parents is an immigrant too, and, while I fall in line with the statistics, I know better than to take them for face value. Native blacks don't usually have as good an education as black immigrants, nor are they as likely to have a family that values it highly.

so then what kind of point are you making....?

Black immigrants aren't smarter.

Jacqueline Copeland-Carson, an African-American scholar with Hubert H. Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota, is optimistic that African immigrants and African-Americans will outgrow any strains, which she blames partly on stereotypes.

"Some Africans view African-Americans as violent, lazy, intellectually inferior — U.S. blacks are taught that the Africans are less civilized, not as capable," she said.

I guess this pretty much somes up the argument of stereotypes....but the thing is....stereotypes never go away......never.

And who ever said that they were, like I asked before?

[quote]
it is not the fault of the african american that the majority of black americans aren't as successful, and aren't as intelligent (therefore... jealous).

Uh.... I dunno....

"Africans are the most educated immigrant group, with many originally coming to the United States to pursue a college or professional degree.” And they are successful in that pursuit. "

whatever u say alchemy.... even if 100 scholars tell u other wise, even if you go to a hospital and 90% of the black doctors are africans.... you will never even accept that as a group......we tend to be more successful (kind of an indication of intelligence...don't u think?)....as individuals, maybe not so......
no point in trying to convince someone, when the facts of life are all around him/her.

Wow I don't even know where to start. I feel very misunderstood. To truly explain what I meant would take pages so I will just use short explanations.

I am not a african supremacist. I don't look african and no one thinks that I am until they hear my last name. I was born in America and I have never been to Africa nor do I speak my language. Africans **** me off with some of their crap as what wowzer mentioned before has some truth to it, and black americans **** me off with their crap, as in the area I live I hate their "I don't care attitude" towards education. But I was raised with a Caribbean and African mentality, which I feel in the world of today has a lot more emphasis on education than does the black american culture. And I am not the only one who thinks this is true because many black leaders today feel the same.

I am not trying to be the white mans ***** because I want to learn? Thats what I was getting from the earlier posts. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I never said all black-americans are dumb. Where are you getting that from. In my posts I never made that sweeping generaliztion. I was basically getting at that in many areas of America high achievement seems like the exception rather than the norm. I am not so stupid as to say that all black-americans are dumb because I know this is not true. I know a black girl that is number one in her class in a nearby town and she is going to UNC. But she is the obvious exception in her school as most people don't even end up graduating from her school.

I don't think the low achievement rate for black-americans has anything to do with their schools, economic level, or opportunities. I feel it mostly has to deal with the present culture. The before mentioned black girl went to a CRAPPY high school but she made the most of her resources and got accepted to a very good school. This happened because her family and her placed education as the top priority. In black-america today I don't see this nearly as often as in african culture. I know many africans that in Africa that would rather go without a meal to afford their tuition than to have no school at all. Many blacks today won't even pick up a book unless they are forced. Many africans in africa have a lot less opportunities and definitely are in worse shape economically. But education is always a priority and they will do anything to achieve it. It all stems from culture. I know many africans that were very good students when they were in Africa but when they came to America that went all down the drain. Know why? Because they got caught up in the race to get the newest shoes and getting all the girls rather than studying. This is a testimony on how the media among other things are destroying black people today.

I don't go to school in the ghetto or anywhere near it. I go to a public school that is predominantly white, though we have a lot of minorities. Since my school has school of choice many black-americans from town that is about 20 minutes away come to my school because their parents think they will get a better education than their own schools that they were in. This obviously isn't the problem as none of them change academically from where they were before and still get bad grades and cause trouble in school.

Wowzer, I don't think you are dumb. You being on CC is already a testimony to that.

I dont even know what else to write. I will just answer replies if there are any.

Success has little to do with intelligence. As my math teacher once said: **** tends to float to the top

GAClassof2008, what college are you attending? This poor Afro-Caribbean black American would like to know.

So if one person says it, you with your intelligence that you hold on dearly to, believe that they speak for a whole population. Next time, and I am referring to your earlier posts, don't group Africans together.

kenshinsan i concur....i'm not a supremacist either. but i have been to africa (once)... but like u i don't speak the language. i used to go to a majority black school but now i go to majority white w/ very few minorities and i see the same laziness....and lack of dedication/interest in education from both schools black american populations. despite....the very very few exceptions.

don't worry about what school i am going to. i plan on going to a nicely ranked school though. i can't say where, because it all depends on scholarship offers and the dorms, and the food, and the academic scheduling......then i plan on becoming a doctor...and continuing to add to the statistics of africans, who come to america/their children.

whatisinaname, assuming you were referring to my post 112#, avoid speaking about my intelligence so that I may can stay silent about yours.

If you'll carefully read my last post (in context), you'll notice that I didn't name any specific group. It's a fact of life. It doesn't take intelligence to get to the top, just luck and common sense. Or birth-rite. Just look at our president!

just luck and common sense????????? only in your world...........
what is the "top" u speak of? becoming an actor/actress can be luck, but a doctor..... by no means is that luck.

GAclassof2008, you're the reason why I have a bias toward Africans. Some of you are just so conceited without reason. As far as blacks go, you're not even that special: Afro-Caribbeans do well too. And they aren't nearly as likely to be arrogant.

What are we arguing about? Im confused..right when I felt that the atmosphere of the forum of change hear we are agaiin arguing about nothing.

Moving on, how do we manage to stop this divide and conquer plot that has plagued our people for generations? It's as strong as ever.
