Well, finally saw La La Land, Lion and Guardians of the Galaxy 1 and 2. Of the batch, I liked Lion the best. Acting was superb, especially the young boy who grows into Dev.
I wasn’t really a fan on La La Land, but the two comic movies were amusing and light. H is a comic fan–hey we gave to watch some movies he enjoys too and no deep brooding pathos or issues.
Finally saw Manchester by the Sea. It was indeed very sad, but not as terminally depressing as I had been led to believe. Wonderful movie, well written, really well cast and directed, with a lot of great performances. I was almost afraid to watch it, but I was glad I did.
^^^Thats exactly how I felt about Manchester @Consolation . It had a very realistic ending, and I thought great subtle humor interspersed throughout. However, if I had gone expecting a certain type of movie and this was what it was, I would have been disgruntled like some of my friends.
Caught up on some movies this weekend, saw “Passengers” which I don’t understand why so many people panned it, it was slow, but I liked it, it was decent science fiction (okay, other than killing off Laurence Fishburn, that should be a crime lol). Saw “Sing”, thought it was cute, and liked “Fantastic Beasts and where to Find Them”).
Ah, the Maltese Falcon “You did it, you killed Miles, and you are going up the river for it. And maybe if they don’t put a rope around that pretty little neck, and maybe if they let you out in 20 years or so, I’ll still love you”. (done from memory, so likely not completely word for word accurante)
Saw Guardians of the Galaxy. It was stupid, but fun. I thought it had a catchier sound track than the first one. I may never be able to listen to Fleetwood Mac’s The Chain the same way though!
Saw Pirate of the Caribbean #5 on Tuesday. It seemed to fit right into the continuing saga. It was amazing how they youthened Johnny Depp via the magic of cinema. He was much handsomer as a youth.
“Saw Guardians of the Galaxy. It was stupid, but fun.”
That sounds like the kind of a movie I would enjoy watching with my sister. She has such funny commentary trying to predict what happens next… And she is always correct!
Both the movie and the book. I really like Dennis Lehane.
If you haven’t seen/read them already, try Gone Baby Gone, another very successful translation of a Lehane novel to the screen. Ben Affleck directing Casey Affleck and Michelle Monaghan .
