Seen any good movies lately?

@igloo, my DH and I enjoyed it too, but I’m glad we watched on DVD. I knew what we were in for, and my expectations were very low. I didn’t want to see it, DH did. Surprisingly, I like it. I didnt feel sad at the end, more contemplative. DH liked how it was realistic. I don’t mind a thoughtful movie now and then, but you have to be in the mood, I think.

Wonder Woman! Enjoyed sitting through a very full showing.

This is why I have resorted to watching primarily older movies. I find them to be much more uplifting and fun than anything coming out of Hollywood these days.

There’s something about today’s straight-faced, hyper-realistic acting style that really rubs me the wrong way… Sure it’s all very believable and true to life, but what fun is that? Why do I want to come home from a hard day of work to watch a show about a school teacher with cancer who decides to live in an RV and make meth? :-?

We finally saw Guardians of the Galaxy 2 over the weekend and enjoyed the escape!

Just got back from seeing Ther Mummy. S really liked it and D really didn’t. Sofia (?) the actress who played the mummy was really good but Tom Cruise was playing Tom Cruise. What happened to him? Was he always this bad an actor? I like him in the Mission Impossible but refused to see him in the Jack Reacher movies because he is NOT JR.

I give the Mummy a score of 5 out of 10. It was good but not great and it set up future movies- Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Dracula, and possibly the creature from the black lagoon?

Finally saw Wonder Woman. LOVED the Amazons. Gal Gadot was great, as was Chris Pine. ( “I’m considered above average” LOL )

I generally do not like comic books and movies based on them, but this was a solid B+.

Saw 47 Meters Down. I can’t recommend it. Think about it…Nothing good can come of sharks. I kept hoping for a feel good ending, and well, it just never came. Won’t give it away…but it didn’t end well. Storyline/plot was very weak also. Supposedly the original script called for a few characters stuck in the cage and what happened to each But they pared it down to just 2. The dialogue was very repetitive, “Ahhh!” “Owwww” “Ahhh” “Ooooh” and so on and so forth.

Just saw Baby Driver. Excellent - acting, cinematography, chase scenes, some humor and romance, great music. Highly recommend it.

Book of Henry

The Babadook. Kind of scary but I survived it as a single woman alone in my house.

Oh, and I watched Get Out. I don’t usually care for the horror film genre but it was a good movie for that category.

Baby Driver got a bit too violent for my tastes at the end, but enjoyed seeing some familiar pavement.

Recently watched The Room on Amazon Prime and was riveted. I understand why Brie Larson brought Jason Tremblay along to the award shows.

I hadn’t had much interest in Room but watched it last year on demand and thought it was great.

@doschicos and @jym626 – Baby Driver is on my list to see this weekend. Thanks for the feedback.

@rosered55 - I loved The Babadook! Parts of it were pretty spooky and it had some disturbing images (not disturbing-gory but really just disturbing-creepy…and that’s hard to do.)

Okja on Netflix. Loved it. Sort of reminded me of Babe, and not only because it’s about a pig, sort of.

Saw Wonder Woman yesterday with my Dad, who has been visiting me. I am so surprised it is such a big hit among even older people. My Dad (80) loved it, but I just wasn’t into it. Oh well. Different strokes.

Went on a rebooted Star Trek Movie binge(The first two and saw Star Trek Beyond 3D in theater this past summer) along with Avatar.

While plenty of hardcore Star Trek fans I knew were mixed about the “rebooted” concept, it was fine and fun to watch. Interesting role reversals between some main characters.

The world created within Avatar is mesmerizing and themes very interesting with many past and recent historical references. I can see why some who may not want to face the less savory aspects of our/world history would have issues with this film.

Just saw Baby Driver. Have to say I was disappointed. Sort of a mish mash - indie heist movie with a slick Hollywood gloss. The love story felt fake. The ending was lame. Not sure why the main character danced his way through the first half whenever he wasn’t driving). I feel like they could have done more with his love of music. Jamie Foxx was a stereotype. Same with Kevin Spacey.
