We must be the last people to have finally seen Wonder Women. It was rather sweet.
Saw Beatriz At Dinner today. A very well done and thought provoking film. Having said that, both my H and I found it upsetting and depressing. Maybe we are just over-sensitive snowflakes. Proceed with caution.
I was highly entertained by Baby Driver. A great big bouillabaisse of violence, romance, caper, music, and humor, along with some great performances. Not something that will stay with you for long, but a perfect summer flick. It kept my interest the whole time, and I’m usually the one peeking at my watch and thinking every movie could be improved by being 20 minutes shorter.
Saw The Beguiled. Meh.
Just saw My Cousin Rachel and much as I love period pieces, don’t rush to see it.
Anyone see The Big Sick? Waiting for it to come near me.
Saw The Big Sick and Beatriz at Dinner -
I loved The Big Sick,I found it refreshing in a cliche type of way and the fact that it’s based on real events and real people made it even better for me. I think I’ve fallen in love with Kumail Nanjiani. Every parent hopes for a love to come to their (adult) child like he has with his real life wife Emily V. Gordon.
Like @oneofthosemoms post above, I found myself pretty down after seeing Beatriz at Dinner. And actually at one point I was feeling like I might want to just walk out (I can’t say I’ve ever walked out of a theater before) and then within minutes it ended. Just like that. Later I realized I wanted to leave because it was so uncomfortable. I don’t have any friends who’ve seen it so I have no one to talk to about it, and my go to IMDB has removed the boards so I can’t even go there to get/give feedback -
DH and I saw The Bick Sick. Sort of a My Big Fat Greek Wedding (Pakastani style) meets While You Were Sleeping.
We really enjoyed it.
I plan to go to Beatriz at Dinner later this week. I want to see The Big Sick, but it hasn’t appeared here yet.
I sympathize with you. @ ["just"aMom] It is very frustrating to see something you really want to talk about and no one is available.
Well, your username apparently cannot be quoted?!? Post #585 is the one I am referring to.
@Consolation - hmmmm I wonder why I can’t be tagged or quoted. Thanks for the empathy.
^^^Screen name too long?
I finally saw Wonder Woman. Probably the best movie in its genre I have ever seen. I’m not a huge fan of movies based on comic books – I don’t think one medium translates well into the other. But Wonder Woman mostly worked.
I’m looking for some recent comedy/uplifting movie recommendations on Netflix. As some of you on CC know, my daughter broke two vertebrae in a car accident three weeks ago. I’m looking for something to unwind to when I get home from work and the rehab hospital each night. I’m not a fan of the raunchy comedies, but don’t know if Netflix has any recent rom-coms, positive/fun documentaries, etc. TV series recommendations are welcome, too (not to hijack the thread off movies, though). I just finished Grace and Frankie, which fits the bill perfectly, and I wish there were more episodes.
“Hello My Name is Doris” was a nice distraction.
I think the problem with tagging you lies in the ampersands and the word quote. Your name is automatically translated to
"just"aMom
@Barbalot , first, my sympathy and wishes for a good recovery for your poor daughter. Secondly, last night I watched Moana on Netflix, which if you haven’t seen it would probably fit the bill. I would recommend that you take a look at Good Girls Revolt, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and GLOW. I just noticed that the vintage movie Three Coins in a Fountain is on Netflix, and I haven’t seen it in decades. OKJA is supposed to be very good and it sounds like it would be the kind of thing you are looking for.
Personally, I started rewatching The West Wing a couple of weeks ago when the current political scene was making me too crazy and too sad. It helped.
On my systems, it’s not converted to the quote marks.
@Barbalot have you thought about watching some old classics?
These are suggestions from AFI’s 100 best movies:
Romantic not funny
Casablanca
Funny and romantic
The Graduate
Singin’ in the Rain
The Philadelphia Story
It Happened one night
Annie Hall
Bringing up Baby
All those Hugh Grant comedies are pretty fun. (Notting Hill, Bridget Jone’s Diary, Love, Actually, Four Weddings and a Funeral, About a Boy)
A few years old, @Barbalot, but entertaining, funny, and interesting:

Wishes for a speedy recovery for your daughter!
Loved Meet the Patels.
Netflix recommendation, I recently enjoyed watching “Anne with an E”
The movie I liked best recently was “The Intern”
I’m seeing the Big Sick tomorrow.
I like math moms list, and would add Groundhog Day. Bill Murraymis fun to watch in several movies.
