Select Status question

Like others, I received a packet in the mail encouraging me to apply to Pitt early. If you apply early (e.g. June-July) to Pitt via "Select Status" - do they ever put you on a wait list or do they either decide to admit you or reject you right then? They say they have a 3 week turn-around time on decisions. I want to apply early to Pitt, but I think I am a borderline candidate for Pitt (GPA 3.5 with a fair number of honors/AP classes; ACT composite 26). I was worried that if I applied early, that they might "reject" me quickly and I wouldn't have a chance to send them my Fall SAT scores. Is it better to just wait to apply to see if your SAT/ACT scores improve? Or, is it better to apply early with "borderline" scores? Pitt is my #1 choice and I don't want to blow it. Any advice is appreciated!

I got that around this time last year (got accepted), and I couldn’t apply that early because my guidance counselors wouldn’t send my transcript until September.

My advice would be to check if your counselors can send your transcripts this early. If they can, go for it. If not, wait until they allow them to be sent out. Remember that Pitt is on rolling admissions so the earlier you apply the better chance you have at getting accepted.

if you were to get waitlisted, they will let you send later scores in. not sure on a reject and I’m not sure where a 26 is on their acceptance scale. it may be in the range where you still have a good shot of getting in. If you were to be rejected, i assume you could appeal that with your new test scores in hand and they would allow for that and reconsider your application. i also suggest you contact Pitt directly and get their advice on this one.

My d got that same invitation via email and hard copy…my older d got it as well two years ago…our issue is that our high school doesn’t figure out the official ranking unti well into September, so the earliest my d can get her transcript out is the end of September. Our school will not release any official transcripts before that time. My older d went ahead and applied during the summer and just kept getting emails and letters in the mail reminding her to send her transcript. She ended up being accepted sometime in October, as soon as the transcripts were rec’d. I think my hs senior d is going to do the same…she will just go ahead and apply and send transcripts in September.

That’s what we are doing. She will apply this summer and send in test scores. Her school gives them an updated transcript when school begins in September, so in a September she will send in the transcript with HS profile and letter from guidance, and ( teachers) letters of recommendation. By October 1 I expect everything to be in. It’s basically impossible for all of this to be in over the summer.
