Does anybody know if freshmen can live in any of the selective housing like the honors house, language houses, philosphy house etc?? Or is it just restricted to upperclassmen?

As far as I know, freshmen can apply to live in just about any of the brownstones (including the specialty housing on Bay State Rd.)

The odds of a freshman getting in . . . is another matter entirely.

Other than the brownstones which housing would you recommend?

I would suggest reading other threads on this board before asking such a general question. Nothing against you-- it's just a bit tiring going over everything again. You don't get as much information asking again as you would browsing the forums, either.

Nom: Do you think it would be difficult to get into the honors house?

Months ago I read a post from a freshman who was living in the honors house. I wish I could remember his name. He wasn't entirely happy. His fellow residents were very intellectual and it wasn't what he was looking for in a freshman housing experience. Maybe he was looking for a more social atmosphere.

Sunkist, I called BU and they said no decisions have been made on honors yet. How do you know you're in the honors program? It's a good assumption if you got a University Scholarship, but I'm curious to know if you got definitive word. I think after May 1 when BU knows who's in the class of '09, they invite the top 10% to honors.

Online, on the applicant link, I got an invitation to a Dean's reception for Honors Students, which is right after the open house ends. I would assume that would mean that I got into the Honors program.

Wow, I actually just posted this SAME question a minute ago!!

I got the same thing in my login for the Dean's Invitation. It says it is for the Honors Program so I assume we're in...?

Are you planning to attend the Open House/ Dean's Reception?

Just checked S's Applicant Link and there is a new link to RSVP to the Honors Program open house, so I guess he's officially in Honors now.

I'm not definitely sure, but I did get the link to RSVP to the Honors Program open house and I got the University Scholarship. That's why I assumed I might get placed in honors.

I can't decide about housing right now. I have an idea because I stayed in Towers over the summer. I don't want to miss out on meeting people though and having that whole freshman experience. Still, even in Towers, the showers were pretty gross and the sensor toilets were so powerful that they would splash you.

I think S feels this way about housing: housing is just one part of the college experience. If he wanted guaranteed great dorms with maid service, he'd have gone to George Washington. His #1 choice is Warren Towers for the social aspect.
