In anticipation of my daughter being invited to apply for Selective Scholarships, could someone list what is needed for the application besides reference letters?

There will be an essay and official transcript, ECCs, and ACT/SAT scores I believe…

Thanks.

I’m confused about the deadlines for selective scholarships. My son was admitted in October and received an invitation to apply for selective scholarships a few weeks later (he also was awarded a merit scholarship during this time period). The deadline for the selective scholarship application was noted as December 1st - yet it seems the process is ongoing for people being accepted and invited? Are there different deadlines depending on when you are accepted? I’m curious because I feel he is rushing his selective scholarship application so if there are later due dates, perhaps he can still get it in later?

I have the opposite concern. My daughter applied before the Nov 1 priority deadline but has not gotten a response yet. How is she supposed to have the SSA by Monday when she has not been accepted yet?

I would suggest you son wait until April to apply, more money for my daughter:)

singermom4, I can’t answer the question about “different deadlines depending upon acceptance date”. But I will share that my son applied on Oct. 31st and received an email acceptance about 2 weeks later. The selective scholarship deadline for him is also, Dec. 1st. This doesn’t give him a lot of time, but he’ll manage it.

@singermom4, @88jm19 Would you mind sharing what is required for the application? Essays? Short Answer? EC Details? ???
Thanks in advance.

I haven’t looked at it, but my son says he has to fill out an application where he must list ECs, awards, grades, etc. There are 2 essay questions and he needs 2 teacher recs. I think that’s it.

I let him handle all his college ap stuff, though I may look over the essays before he submits them.
Hope that helps.

@88jm19, Thanks, just want to give my daughter a heads up in case she needs a fast turn around. We really hope to hear something soon. She has good stats and applied Oct 28.

Make sure he checks his Onestart account to see if everything is recd. Even tho my daughter had
sent transcripts electronically thru HS, they got hung up at IU’s end. Delayed her acceptance and SSA app. She got in just under the wire.

My son received a postcard ‘congratulations’ for receiving the selective scholarship application. He applied in mid-October (I think). He has to submit essays, an activities resume, two recommendation letters and the application form in OneStart. Yes, turnaround is tight given the holidays falling in this time period.

Thanks.

My daughter got accepted via OneStart today. No email about honors or SSA yet.

Isn’t the deadline the 15th? Also, how much money does the SSA usually grant? I only got 2,000 from the Deans Scholarship and I need to get the 45K down to 30K to make going to Indiana feasible. I also have the Fry Scholarship to do for getting directly admitted to Kelly, how much does that usually give?

alty1723 - There are different selective scholarships - go the the university website to see the different ones. The Deans scholarship awards up to $11k - since you received on the low end of the Dean, it seems a low probability you will be awarded a selective scholarship. Were you invited to apply bit the SSA?

Singermom4 - Yes I was invited, and I was also invited to take the Fryers Scholarship. I’m Hispanic, so I get the benefit of diversity as well. My gpa is a 3.74 and act superscore is a 31. However, my gpa my last semester of junior year was a 3.85 and will be above a 3.9 for my first semester of senior year. Do they look at these high grades towards the end of my senior year as a sign that this student still cares?

alty1723 - The Fry is a full-ride scholarship. If you meet the Direct Admit stats for Kelley AND have financial need you would likely receive it. My understanding is that this scholarship is very well funded yet Kelley has a difficult time getting enough qualified students to accept (as highly qualified diverse students often have multiple scholarship opportunities). Good luck!

When do you hear about SSA decisions, meaning amounts given?

check your Onestart account under Financial Aid tab end of Jan.
