Selective Scholarship?

Has anyone heard anything on the Selective Scholarship decision yet? Will there be any interview requried?

I don’t THINK there are any interviews involved (except Wells, which is not in this grouping), and they say that they will let you know sometime in February. Best of luck.

The Herbert Presidential Scholarship and the Cox Scholarships may have interviews, but I’m guessing you would have received notification if it was under consideration. For the rest of the SSA there are no interviews required. Also don’t worry if you don’t hear anything until the end of Feb. or even early March. D received her notification in the first week of March last year even though it said February.

I’m not sure if Kelley is on the same timetable. For 2 different scholarships, S has received notification during the summer. The money was quite welcome and a nice surprise but I’m wondering if Kelley doesn’t wait until they know which students are coming for sure and then spread it around.

Obviously, this isn’t the case for Kelley Scholars. There are interviews for those awards and I believe the decisions are made by late February. To be OOS and a Kelley scholar is a HUGE accomplishment. I can’t remember if there was a separate app for Kelley Scholars or if it was a part of the SSA.

havent seen anyone post this yet but… when son got his ssa notification the date due was mar 1, which didnt make sense, called ms baker and she had it corrected with a new date of jan15th. however he got an e-mail from IU that said even though his date was jan 15th… major scholarship award had a date of dec 15th Including receipt of letters of rec… so a heads up if anyone else has a later date.

Son received information today from the College of Arts and Sciences that he was being offered Direct Admission as a freshman. The envelope also included the 1st Year Indiana Scholars Award valued at $4,000 ($1,000 per year) over a period of four years (eight semesters). Apparently the Direct Admission offer was based on information gleaned from the SSA. You can read more about this in the following link.

[College of Arts and Sciences: College Direct Admission](http://college.indiana.edu/ado/dap/direct.shtml)

when does hutton start announcing their scholarships? if i got one of those i feel like that would totally nail down IU for me.

Son received IU Distinction Scholarship ($9k/yr) with admissions letter. Last week received Direct Admit to Mathematics Department (did not apply for this directly) and then received a Striped Scholars Scarf with IU logo. Still waiting to hear about SSA.

Herbert Presidential Scholar information came out last year in Late February if I remember correctly from last year.
Hutton Honors Scholarships (if you receive one) came out about the same time.
If you won’t receive one, then I believe you don’t get any notice.

Basically, they come as soon as you stop looking for it. That’s what I realized last year, however good luck to all of you!

I just received a Hudson and Holland Scholarship in the mail today. That’s based on the SSA application as well. I didn’t have an interview.

my son rec’d IU distinction on admission, and got letter re Direct Admit for chemistry but nothing regarding honors scholarship yet.

i just got into Indiana, and its not my first choice school (im still waiting for others to reply). are there any scholarships i can apply to? (im a Finance major by the way)

or are all the scholarships for people who are defiantly going? because there is a good chance i will not be going, but at the same time, if i do go, i don’t want to pay the high out of state tuition.

hr4990-according to the other thread you applied after the deadline date for automatic scholarships.

You will be notified via your paper and email acceptances of your eligibility to apply for selective scholarships. Your eligibility is determined by your application stats.

From the IU scholarships website:

If you are selected based on your application for admission, information about the SSA process, as well as directions for accessing the application in OneStart, will be provided via email and in your letter of admission.

anyone heard about scholarships from their ssa app yet? hutton scholarship etc?

hr4990,

There are scholarships you can apply for from each of the various schools (business, journalism, music, history, etc.) once you are accepted into the school. Normally this means you can apply in about January of your sophomore year. As a result, this means the scholarships you get would only apply to your junior and senior years.

Since you said you are a likely finance major, here is the list of some of the scholarships you could possibly qualify for:

<a href=“Undergraduate | Bachelor's Degree in Business | Indiana Kelley”>Undergraduate | Bachelor's Degree in Business | Indiana Kelley;

Calz: WOW…that is a LOT of scholarships.

So…let’s see… Wells isn’t SSA based, but they’ve already been announced.

I assume Kelly Scholars is SSA based, and we know that Midwest-dad’s Midwest-son has been invited to interview for Kelly Scholars. So that’s in a “working” stage.

But I THINK it’s a bit too early for Hutton/ Herbert Presidential…etc. From the various things I’ve read…I was assuming more toward the end of February. Though I’ve read some older IU announcements that said it COULD beging at the end of January. The Herbert Presidential scholarship gives preference to National Merit Finalists, so…they probably have to wait until at least Feb 9 when those are officially announced.

Indeed! IU is amazing for giving the # of merit scholarship to the in-state students. I think that all we Indiana residents should be thankful for that. I just hope that this recession does not impact that too significantly.

I know that one student received (automatic + Herbert = full ride) after he was not selected as one of the winners for the Well’s scholarship. IU is definitely looking out for their potential best students.

Please take a look at the following link if you have not explored the possibility before:

anyone know when cox hutton or herbert notifications are sent out. I already got 4000 from the neuroscience department, which is weird because i just listed it as a possible major. Anyone else have a pleasent surprise??

Would any one know if Cox and Herbert Scholarship require one-day or two-day interview?

Thanks

I inquired about the status of the Cox Research Scholarship awards a couple of weeks ago through their department and was provided the following reply:

We will be sending out award letters as well as “not-selected” letters by the beginning of February. The review committee has just about wrapped things up and we will make the nominations to the Provost.

I would draw the conclusion that there won’t be any interviews for the Cox.
