Hutton Honors and Herbert Presidential Scholarships

My son conmpleted SSA in early November. I understand that it will be into February until he hears back on any awards. He is a direct admit to Kelley, received the IU Excellence scholarship with a 4.15 GPA and 1360 SAT. Also he is an academic all state athlete in 2 sports. He is an Indiana resident as well. What are his chances of getting one or both of these scholarships?

Many Hutton students receive some sort of scholarship. I would guess that he may end up with $1000 scholarship because he applied before Dec. 1. D had a higher GPA and higher scores, but at the lower end of Hutton Students. She received $1000. Much of it depends upon his application essays.

His chances for the Herbert Scholarship are lower in my estimation. Did he receive information about the Kelley Scholars program?

yes he did receive information Kelley scholars…does that make a difference? Did your D receive Presidential Scholarship? From what I read the average test score for Herbert were 1321?

I was trying to edit my post but was delayed.

D did not receive Presidential Scholarship. The scores for the Herbert are lower because there is some additional criteria–overcoming adversity or something like that and it was originally aimed at minority students. A couple of her HS peers received the Herbert. One was the Valedictorian. I “think” some have been nominated for the Wells Scholarship and did not receive it. The Herbert is kind of the next best thing.

I don’t know if the Kelley Scholars program makes a difference. I offered it up as another possibility for scholarships.

Our son was also admitted to Hutton for next year. We must wait until January/Feb to find out if he is a direct admit to a different school and any resulting scholarships. He was the “third” nominee from his HS for the Wells Scholarship. Being “third” is nice, but since schools only can nominate two students, he wasn’t nominated. The hard thing about that is that one of the two nominees will probably not go to IU, even if she receives the Wells Scholarship. Son will. Oh well…

Did your son receive his scarf? It’s a nice little surprise for scholarship students.

Congratulations!

The scarf was a great surprise! My D is not leaning toward IU at this point, but she loves her scarf and wears it all the time. We’re waiting to see what other schools do to court the kids.
