I want to self-study AP Chem this year, and I was wondering if anyone could advise me as to how hard this will be. I took chem as a sophomore (2 years ago) and got 760 on the SAT II. However, if I self-study, I won't be able to do any labs or anything, I'll just buy an AP prep book and read and do problems. Do you think I could manage this? Thanks for any help!

yea i did the same for chem
but AP chem is much much harder
believe me - im takin it
if ur school offers it, get their textbook and a prep book. if not, id advise u to take an easier one.... there are self-study AP threads that u can read, although stats and econ seem to pop up as easy ones

If you stick with it, you can do it. If you've taken honors chem or chem I, the principles are the same they just set the plow much, much deeper.

u need to be really good at basic mathematics nad algebra. well u don't but the course will suck if u are'nt good with numbers. simple stuff but a lot of it

Thanks for your thoughts! I'll give it a shot, since I have nothing to lose. Unfortunately, my school's science department ins abysmal, so I'll be completely on my own. It should be rewarding, since I really want to study an advanced science.

I agree with vtran31 that your math background is important (more important than your chemistry background). My son successfully self-studied for AP chem with no prior chem experience. But he's very strong in math. (he used Zumdahl's text)
