Is it possible to self study for the Biology SAT Subject Test (and receive at least a 750) by June? Does anyone have any suggestions for the best books/best way to do this? I currently have barrons and spark notes and they seem pretty good but I don't have much basis for comparison. Any suggestions?

I have been self-studying since mid april, by basically taking notes on stuff from the barrons book
then starting last week i studied the notes the i took from the barrons book
and next week im going to teach myself some ecology, evolution(this gives me 4 weeks before the test to teach myself this stuff) and a little genetics cause my class hasn covered those topics yet and its great to be ahead of the game
I also would like laround an 800 on the sat II

Thanks for the advice. Have you taken any practice tests? If so, how have you been doing?

see i took a practice test on sparknotes and i got 670, but i had to skipp 33 questions because i did not know them(cause my bio class hasnt covered those topics yet) and ended up with only 1 question wrong on the entire test, so if i had answered those 33 and my guess si that i would get most of them right i wouldve ended up with like an 800 maybe 790

I have the same question.

I second this! Especially if you haven’t had Bio since freshman year???

see i am currently a freshmen taking ap biology prep(another name for honors biology , but 5 points are not added onto your average or gpa), and i currently have a 100 average. So i want to take it and get an 800 on it now so I dont have worry about it when i am a junior taking ap bio

and charlie brown how are u doing in your bio class

Some people self-study AP Bio, so SAT II Bio is definitely manageable. I would recommend PR and Barron’s together. Barron’s is a bit sloppy, and PR might not cover everything.

Would PR and Barron’s be enough for 750+ though (with only a month of studying)? and sohaibshaikh, I did well in my honors freshman year bio course, but that was 4 years ago. I’m currently in IB Bio, but many of the topics we study now are not really tested on the subject test.

did u ever try to take the bio sat 2 as a freshman

I’m self studying for Bio-E. I feel its more like a refresh, because I took bio as a sophomore, so I’m just rusty. I bought the PR one, which I find is really good, especially if you’re in the self-study boat. I started a couple of weeks ago, and I’m confident about what I’ve studied so far. I think bio-E is easier, especially if you’re bottling up info. If you’re good at chem, M is probably the way to go. Godd luck to all of you June 6!!! let’s all hope for 750+ :)

see, i really like chemistry and know a lot about it and am more comfortable about stuff on genetics and what not, and plus as a freshman this is probably the perfect year to do the sat 2 and get it over with amd im with u on 750+
(luckily my bio teacher is starting review classes to help us do well on the test)

I did not take it as a freshman. But even if I had, I doubt I would have done extremely well. And good luck to you too dorian332!

Any advice from past test takers who’ve self studied?
