So I took AP Physics 1 last year. This year I am taking AP Physics 2. Do you think I can self study AP Physics C, both parts, using the Princeton review AP Physics C prep book and get 5s on both?
I’ll also do many practice problems.
Or do you think that I have to actually read a textbook?
It’s possible for C: Mech if you have Calc 1 (Calc AB) knowledge. C: E & M is a bit more complicated and shares many of the same topics as AP Physics 2.
If you feel confident, for sure you can self-study C: Mech, but a lot of people have trouble doing both C’s without a structured classroom.
Just using PR may not be good enough, so also check out Dan Fullerton’s website for videos, materials, and other links.
At my school AP Physics 1 was offered but the next step was Physics C. Our Physics C class covered both exams and from what I went through Mechanics is actually pretty well covered by Physics 1 and there are only a few concepts that you are required to learn that are relatively new. E&M is a completely different animal altogether and unless you are really good at physics I would say they are tough to learn outside of a classroom setting.
Cool, I took Calc BC and I got a 5 on the exam. I am going to use PR and Dan Fullerton’s videos and materials. While at the same time taking multiple practice exams, I have a big collection of them. Thanks
Who is Dan Fullerton? Where does one find his videos?
@grandscheme YouTube or aplusphysics . Com
A simple google search “Dan Fullerton” will show you all his stuff.
thank you. Have never heard of him or aplusphysics but am new to the physics phamily. (ha. sorry. couldnt resist.)
He also has videos on educator . com. Those seem more in depth than the youtube videos. Can anyone confirm?
@RiceEater108 Educator is much more thorough and he put a lot more time into making those videos. If money is not a problem, Educator.com is a good choice.
@ZealousScholar Do also think that watching the videos would be a help for studying for SAT Physics 2?
@RiceEater108
Yes, AP Physics 1 & 2 series would be really helpful. Just make sure to get a dedicated SAT Physics book for review, sample questions, and practice tests.
AP Physics C doesn’t do much good as its Calculus based, and many topics are left out.
I would not expect to get 5s on both by self studying. To put it in perspective, at Columbia University we have a separate class specifically for students that received 5s on both exams (meaning it is extremely difficult). I would refrain from stressing yourself over it and just get a 5 on physics 2 by itself.
