This year I'm taking World History and Biology in class. My school offers few APs (11, maybe), so I planned on self-studying APWH and APES. This is my first time taking any APs and my school does offer AP Bio, but with my planned-out schedule I'm not sure I'll be able to fit it in. There's also the issue of me never having taken APs before and wondering if I can handle it. The general schedule for students at my school is:

9th grade - Biology
10th - Chemistry
11th - AP Phys, Bio, or Chem
12th - AP Phys, Bio or Chem

My question(s) is: a) Should I stick with self-studying APES as it supplements my Bio class, b) self-study AP Bio this year instead or c)at a later date/year, or d)skip normal-class Chem next year, take AP Chem instead so I'll be able to have room for AP Bio at a later date?

I know it sounds really confusing. I'm a rising freshman so it's a bit early for me to be on CC, but I'm just trying to figure out my science schedule for the next four years. O_o

I suggest either self-studying AP Bio this year or taking AP Chem next year if you want to make your schedule as strong as possible. APES is generally viewed as an easy self-study, so it’s probably not worth the time you could spend on another AP or an EC or studying for the SAT, etc.

I don’t know whether you can handle APs; only you can figure that out.

@blackandyellow: I don’t consider it technically self-studying, because for APWH I’m also taking the Honors World History class. (my school doesn’t offer that AP class). I figured that self-studying APWH would complement my class and vice versa. Same idea with APES, since from what I’ve heard environmental science is a narrower version of Biology and I’m also taking normal Biology this year.

@energize: Thanks, I’ll probably go ahead and take AP chem next year and skip normal chem. I’m pretty good at science, so hopefully I’ll be able to handle it. Has anyone else done this before, and done well on the exam?

Also, I’m self-studying APES because I’ve heard it’s pretty easy and I thought it’d be a good idea to ease into AP-level starting with one of the easiest tests, also I’m doing some environmental science competitions and it might complement my studying. And I’ve heard AP Bio is a ton of memorization, so that might be difficult. ^.^
