Where's oasis nowadays? It seems like she hasn't come on for a few months...

He is a student at MIT, and one of the MIT bloggers.

would it be too late for me to start self-studying for ap environmental or ap psych, so i can take one in may?? (right now im taking 3 other ap's and am starting track season...)

My school offers very few AP classes (<6), which I plan to have taken by the end of Senior year.

Anyways, I'm thinking of self-studying for some AP's Junior year. Mainly:
- Computer Science AB (should be easy; I'm a professional programmer)
- World History
- Macroeconomics

How much will doing this help me when I go to apply? (top schools)

Also, my school has the option of independent studies. I'm thinking of possibly doing CS and Macroeconomics as independent studies, which essentially means I'd get a teacher who would give me tests once a month. Should I try to do this? That way it'd show up on my transcript and might help my GPA.

The college board will no longer be offering the AP Computer Science AB test after this year.

Should I self-study AP Microecon.

I am taking AP Macro, AP Chem, and AP Gov. but I am considering taking Micro exam. However, it is March, and I havent even started studying for any of them. Should I just stick to the 3 Exams and try to gets 4s and 5s or should I push myself harder to take the Micro exam as well??????

I need a reply quick please help!!!!!

I also need some quick help. I am planning on self-studying AP Human Geo and AP Enviro, but I don't know if I have enough time to get a five on both exams. There are only two months left before the test, and I have already signed up. Any suggestions as to how much time I should devote each night? I haven't started either AP. Thanks!

You still have some time to learn a lot if you pace yourself. Get study books and try to put in 1-1.5 hours each night to HUG and Enviro. The information in these classes is also reinforced with flashcards so go to Google.com and search for flashcards on quizlet, or make your own. Good luck :)

Nooo just stick to the 3 exams and try to get 5's on those..Chem is pretty comprehensive, you want as much time on that as you can get.

env sci took me a week to finish.
it is no prob at all.

Thanks, oasis.

Hello does anyone know any good resources or books to self study for AP Language and Composition because i plan to start this summer .Because next year i will be in English 3(for some reason at my new school they have 3 english classes before you go to AP) my teacher said that if i score a 4 or 5 next year then she will place me in Literature and composition the next following year.

English Language and Composition isn't really a class that has a certain amount of info that can be learned and memorized. A lot of classes don't even really prepare for the AP, just read books all year. Try using the practice tests in CliffsAP, which are pretty good, and maybe look at the course description and sample syllabuses at AP central for some idea of what books to read. My class this year has read The Scarlet Letter, Moby Dick, Walden, Civil Disobedience, Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, The Catcher in the Rye, and is about to read Inherit the Wind.

Is AP Calculus AB self-studiable...I'm finding the amount of contents of it extravagent(if that's spelt correctly) lol

Everything is self-study-able if you're motivated and determined. There isn't a lot of time left though, especially if you're going to take the early administration of the exam. If you still have a Spring Break, then you might be able to cram it in. It's a lot of stuff to remember though, and unless you're a stellar math and physics student, don't waste time on it.

My spring break will be spent studying both econs and human geography (because I procrastinated until now). =D

Lol, do you guys think I can manage to start self-studying AP Psych now (with Barron's) and get a 5 in May? I don't know how this happened, I planned this back in October, LMAO...

Of course, I did Psych in 3 days back in high school ;)

Haha sorry guys...workload at MIT always make me have these gaps of time when I'm too busy to do anything else other than schoolwork = =

To the many people that msged me or commented on "whether I should study this exam" - my advice is still as follows:

I'm not you, so I don't know whether you can or you can't. Thus, when you ask me these questions, it's hard for me to answer for you as well. (also, it's been nearly 2 years since I took my last AP exam, so my "advice" about certain subjects may be outdated. (although I believe the general doctrine of self-studying AP exams to demonstrate academic competence still holds).

If you want to know whether you can or not, utilize these boards on CC - there's a ton of posters here that are also "overachievers" ;) and can help you out there. Alternatively, go to your local Barnes and Nobles and pick up a prep book to see whether you think the material is feasible for study.

As long as you are determined and don't set overly ambitious goals, I think anything's possible :P

Also, since it's just like a month from the AP exams, start studying for whatever subjects you're thinking of self-studying ASAP! (especially if you haven't started yet XP)

don't study. my junior year i took AP Bio, AP Stat, AP Euro, and AP U.S. History. I got a 5 on Bio, Euro, and Stat. I got a 4 on the U.S. history test, imagine that. I didn't study at all.

do colleges know what an "easy" AP is? im a little worried that if i load up on the likes of APES, human geo, psych, etc. that they'll think im just trying to build a resume....
also is stats easy to self study? what about the econs? Is there a ton of math involved? (ill be Algebra II and PreCalc next year...
