AP French: Oh god. I’m taking it tomorrow. I think I’ll be a bit disappointed if I don’t get a 5 because that’s all I’ve been doing these past few weeks. My teacher didn’t teach us anything, so I had to do a lot of self-studying (going through the Barrons book, doing the FRQs on the College Board website, watching French media, etc).

To answer the question…if you have confident speaking skills (i.e. if you’ve already taken 2+ years) and are willing to put in the time to regularly watch French TV/listen to French songs (for listening/speaking), you should be fine. Grammar and writing you can practice yourself, and you can read French articles online for the reading comprehension.

Anyone have experience self-studying the following? a) Is it doable? b) What’s the best prep book without a textbook complement?
Psych
Comp Sci
Stat

Physics B - w/class
English Lang - w/class
APUSH - w/class
Spanish 4 - w/class
Psych - Self
EnvSci - Self
Human Geo - Self
US Gov - Self (but I will have APUSH)
CompGov - Self (but ties in w/US Gov right?)
Music Theory - not official class, but my piano teacher is teaching it to me
Biology - had an Honors Biology class freshman year, covered most of the topics
European History/Art History - Which one should I self-study?
I’m going to start as soon as this year is done.

FYI: I took 7 AP tests in Soph year (4 self study) and 1 in Freshman year, so it won’t be that huge of a jump.

Would it self-studying physics C be okay with my mom’s help while I’m taking physics B? She has a masters degree in physics. And what book should I use?

& bobtheboy, it will be tough, but I think that those APs are doable. Human Geo, the Governments, Psych, and Envi Sci are all rather easy to self study. I can’t speak for music theory, although I know that AP Bio is a lot of work, memorization-wise. With all of the others, you might want to avoid that. And I just took Euro History and it was quite a bit of work- I have no knowledge of art history, but you might want to go with that.

That’s a lot of APs…are u doing it for AP State Scholar? A lot of those are easy like Scivener said but Euro History, US History, AND AP Bio…thats a huge work load. Along with SAT, ACT, and other aspects of your life, that might end up being really stressful. Id Say don’t do Art History or Euro because Art History is actually pretty hard, there was a post on the page before this about it.

What’s AP State Scholar?
I hopefully am getting National Scholar this year, if I score well enough on the remaining tests.

I’m doing this because of my love of learning. I know it sounds totally corny and fake, but in my case it’s actually true. lol

Edit: I just looked up AP State Scholar. Wow, it’d be pretty cool to get that… but that’s a secondary motive. In fact, it wasn’t even a factor until right now. I am aiming for all 5’s anyway.

what does this mean?
“Remember to register with your school in January/February about the exams you’re taking in May. If you don’t check in with them, they’ll just register you for the AP exams you are taking at school.”
thanks

ap econ is easy. there is NO CALC.
im taking ap econ macro this year as a junior.
i basically just show up to class. ill get a 4 or 5 without studying.
in fact some senior in my class only shows up to it like once a week lol.
you should def take it.
im also gonna take ap econ micro next year.

I’m a sophomore (took AP stats this year) but for next year I’m taking:
-AP us history
-AP comp
-AP chem
I also really want to self study psych (which i really wish i had done this year, but didn’t know about).

Kids at my school have a tough time with AP US (the class, not the test). Would it be a bad idea to self study another AP? (I’m a math/science person). I don’t want to go insane but the past two years I’ve been pretty bored in school…(that’s why I took stats).

Would it be stupid to self study over the summer then just review a month or so before the exam?

Also, for senior year, my school only offers AP Calc AB. Would it be a bad idea to take AB and self study for BC and take the BC exam?

And oh my god the people on this thread are a little overwhelming with all their APs lol. Reallllly wish I had taken more this year.

and i want to self-study psych since i already took bio this year… im also sorta to wanting to self-study another. what would be another easy one to self study since i do alot of stuff outside of school… my senior sched is probs gonna be AP eng, AP spanish, Physics C, and Micro, Macro, human geo, calc bc. So i won’t be self-studying those.

And like the other people here, is this doable?

Going into Soph year:
AP Physics C [both parts]-class
AP Bio- self (ill be taking honors bio in school though… possible?)
ap psych- self
ap macro- self
(maybe?) ap human geo- self

I’m taking 6 AP classes next year as classes:
AP Eng Lang
AP Stat
AP Calc AB
AP Physics C: Mechanics
AP Bio
AP World History

And I plan on self studying:
AP Music Theory
AP Psych
AP Human Geography
AP Environ Science

…is this too much? I’m good at memorizing, and I’ve done music theory since I was in 7th grade I believe with my piano teacher. I’ll be a junior next year.

yes it is too much- you need to make decisions about which classes are more important and interesting to you

i just finished my junior year and only did 2 AP’s (english and music theory) and i know i was able to achieve my full potential in those classes because considering how many activities and leadership positions i have i knew i couldnt handle that many and do a good job

Hey guys
I’m planning on self-studying AP Psych, EnvSci, and Human Geography.
Are these APs capable of being studied for from just ordinary prep books like Barron’s? I heard AP Psych and Human Geog can be studied by just reading through Barron’s, but I’m not sure about Envi Sci.
What other APs can be self studied from just prep books like Barron’s/PR?

ninmage, if i were you, id hold off on apes till senior year; youve got a lot of ap’s already, and from people whove taken apes, ap bio helps with it (providing of course you have a good teacher)
