Self-Studying APs: Improving Your App

^^I forgot about the comfy chair. That is another advantage lol. Although mine wouldn’t let me end early (not that I would want to anyways…I needed every last second and even that wasn’t enough) and I wasn’t provided snacks lol.

Well maybe sitting next to my gorgeous counselor will be soothing. Are you guys’ counselors guys or girls? And did their gender make it more awkward in any way?

^^Um…yeah no, for me it really wouldn’t matter. Because, well, there is a test in front of me that has my full attentiont. Seriously just concentrate on the task at hand, why does it matter if you find your guidance counselor hot? (I would hope you have enough self control to be able to focus on a AP test regardless of who is proctoring.)

I do have self control haha, I was trying to be humorous by indicating that I would be distracted by my counselor’s appearance. I would be able to focus. I’m really self controlled. You know how Asian parents are. lol

@dylandlima: Thanks for the reply! I will definitely be using Barron’s for prep. :)

I will also self-study AP Comparative Government. Have self-study CG test takers reported success (4-5) with Ethel Wood’s prep book, or were supplemental materials necessary (and, if so, which)?

Ethel Wood’s book is good. Use it. It’s the only thing you need.

Still waiting on confirmation email from the assistant principal…I wish he would reply.

Sorry about that then. I’m not very good at catching humor by any standards and sometimes it doesn’t carry through to text.

Don’t worry about it. They will say yes, and if they say no, take the test at another school. Don’t let a simple no from your school stop you from learning and earning college credit.

Yup, that shouldn’t stop me. With psych added I will have 4 AP’s sophomore year- APWH, Bio, AP Spanish, AP psych…with only psych being a self study.

What APs are you guys self-studying next year? I’m self-studying Pysch, Environ Sci, English Language, and maybe World History.

That’s likely too many^ unless your really into it. If you’re going to be in 5 AP classes then self study another 4 you’ll be in way over your head most likely. I was thinking just Psych for me plus 3 AP classes.

I’m only taking 3 AP Classes next year because that’s all our school offers. I self-studied 3 last year and didn’t find it too difficult…I really didn’t study until a month before the test. Have you started Psych at all? It’s very interesting so far :)

I’m taking AP Euro (at my school, only history AP’s are available to sophomores) and self studying Pysch and Comparative Government. :)

I’m taking Calc AB, Chem, and Psych and will be self-studying Comparative Gov and at least one Economics.

^but you guys are all upperclassmen right?

@ puggly…take Micro if you are taking just one. Much much much easier IMO  esp the graphing

@ dylandlima - I will be a junior next year

I’m taking Calc AB, Bio, and Euro as classes.

Then self-studying Pysch, Environ Sci, English Language, Physics B (?) and World History (?)

Haha sorry for the sorta double post - I just had to add my classes and was rethinking my self-studies. Idk…I love self-studying APs but I wonder how beneficial it really is for college admissions :(

I would advise strongly against self studying physics. And I say you probably should not self study English. Drop Euro, take English as a class then self study Euro. This seems like the dynamic way of doing it. So you’ll be taking: English, Calc, and Bio as classes then Psych, Environ Sci, and possibly world history as self studies. I discourage taking 2 histories in the same year though. So maybe choose between Euro and WH?

There is nothing wrong w/self-studying ap english. all you have to do is familiarize yourself w/everything and if you’re naturally a good writer it’s a piece of cake.

Do you think self-studying for AP Chem and AP Bio
And taking the AP Cal AB Exam. Would that be to much?
