hello I would like to know if AP exams can be taken abroad, in France for example? (in USA AP exams can be taken without following the courses in question if i’m not wrong) so is it possible for me to take these exams? I think that there would be a test center in paris if it’s possible to take it abroad, ? because some of knowledge used in these tests are naturally learnt in our high schools or in any case for the most part.
and I think it could be interesting to flesh out my application with these exams
I’ve already post a thread for that but nobody has answered me and I really need this information (I didn’t find it on the website)

Do you think it is a legitimate idea to self study multiple so-called simpler APs in Freshman Year?

I’m planning to self study the easier ones from second semester freshman year to sophomore, mainly because my school only offers 5 AP courses and they are all in grade 12…

Last year I sort of self-studied bio, world, and Chinese. I find the tests fun. Got all 5’s. Here’s my reflection on them:

Bio - I used McGraw Hill along with Barron flashcards. I was taking a biology course at my no-ap’s school. I started studying over winter break. I remember feeling like I knew nothing. The exam was okay, but I bs’ed my way though some of the free response. Get a good flowing gel pen for the test. Really, bio is just a bunch of memorization. Took bio June SAT subj test. That was easier.

World - another memorization one. I also used McGraw Hill with Barron flashcards. I was also taking two years of world history at school. The test was exhilarating. I started studying in January. I looked at all of the collegeboard’s free response questions online, which really helped. Really think of bigger trends, trade, etc. know the format of a DBQ and the other two essays in terms of what readers look for. Took June SAT subject test afterwards. That was easier.

Chinese - I am 1st gen American-Chinese so I took this one for the lolz. Barely studied. They hook you up to a computer w/ headset and you talk into a microphone. Was going to take SAT subject test but though it would look cheap to do so much Chinese because of my ethnicity.

If I just self-study Barron’s only but know it thoroughly is there a strong chance of getting a 5 or should I study (or watch) something else also. And for the exam should I memorise the maps or just know how to interpret it.
Macro economics, for a 5 will it be sufficient to do Barron’s and khans academy?

Would it be ok for a upcoming freshman like me to start self studying ap psyc and ap human geography starting this summer and take it in may of 2014?

How hard is AP Chem when you’re taking AP Euro, AP Lang, AP Enviro and AP World? Is it too much??

I am a freshman at a very average high school. Next year I was thinking of self-studying AP Biology( I am taking a honors Bio course) and AP Psych (two subjects I am very interested). I was wondering what text book and review book I should use? I am also wondering if this is overkill with the rest of my schedule?
- Honors English
- Global Issues
- Band
- Pre-Calc
- Biology(honors)
- Latin 1
- Spanish 3
I think I can handle it, but my parents think I am stressing myself out too much, but I love these subjects and I am a great student. How did you all convince your parents to let you self study (this is my main problem)?
Thanks so much!

Xanatos22498, self studying happens teh weekend before ap exams so its not a big deal to self study,it wont take up alot of time

Bump.

Why do people on CC giving such contradicting advice?

I come from a low competitive school that will only allow me to take AP classes in Senior year. (They only offer 2) Would it be a good idea to self study lots of AP’s? My current course load will require basically no work outside of school.

The more AP’s the better, correct? Obviously the harder the more beneficial, but as a general rule, the more AP’s I take, the more I’ll stand out?

Bumpbumpbumppp

I am an upcoming sophomore. I wasn’t planning on self studying AP’s in high school until… 5 minutes ago. Do all schools allow you to do this? I have a feeling they’ll get all uptight about it. Perhaps not.

Is it feasible to self study AP bio while taking honors biology? Are they different courses?

And which is easier, AP Human Geography or AP Environmental Science?

Would self studying AP Bio and one of the above be feasible with this schedule?:

Honors Pre-calculus
Honors Biology
Honors Chemistry
AP World History
Honors English
French II
Religion II

I was gonna take AP Psych and AP Bio next year for my junior year…until I read this. Should I just drop those and take AP US History and AP Chem instead? I don’t think I should be wasting my time at school taking those when I can easily self-study them. Can someone tell me if this is a good idea?

@acdunk543 I’m in no way experienced in APs, but judging from other peoples’ perspectives on CC, I think that it might be better to take APUSH and AP Chem at school. I’ve heard that AP Psych is SUPER easy and AP Bio is pretty straightforward, so yeah you should self-study them.

I just took ap bio, ap US, and ap chem and I would say that you can probably study self study both apush and ap bio but I would find it much easier to have a teacher for ap bio. Apush is the most self studiable in my opinion

If I am taking:
AP Chemistry
AP Physics C mechanics
AP Psychology
AP Calculus BC

Which other AP should I self study if I already took:
AP English Language
AP Calc AB
AP US History
AP Physics B
AP Statistics

I would suggest trying to self study a lot of the humanities APs. You already seem to have a solid base in the field anyway with Lang and APUSH so I would suggest AP US government and/or AP Comparative Government.

I’m going to self study for a couple.

Junior year:
- AP Human Geography
- AP Comparative Government and Politics

I’m self studying for both, but I’m going to get help from teachers.

Senior year:
- AP Psychology
- AP European History
- AP French Language
- AP Environmental Science
- AP Statistics

I know it’s seems like a lot but I’m going to get plenty of help.
I’m especially worried for French and Euro. But I think I’m really good at French and I got a five in World History this year. Also, for Euro, I’m going to take APUSH this year and I hear that the essays are similar? Do you think I can get fives on all of these? Also, it’d be great if you recommended materials for each.

By the way, my AP schedule for junior and senior year is as follows:

Junior year:
- AP English Language
- AP United States History
- AP Spanish Language
Self study: - AP Human Geography
- AP Comparative Government and Politics

Senior year:
- AP English Literature
- AP United States Government
- AP Economics
- AP Spanish Literature
- AP Biology
- AP Art History
Self study: - AP Psychology
- AP European History
- AP French Language
- AP Environmental Science
- AP Statistics

I’ll have other pre-AP classes, too.

My junior schedule is going to be:

AP Calculus AB
AP Biology
AP Physics B
AP Literature
AP US History
AP Computer Science

Which of these AP’s would be the best to self study in addition to my class AP’s:

AP Human Geography
AP World History
AP Psychology

…Or maybe a different AP? To get National AP Scholar, I’d need 8+ AP’s with 4’s. So far just one (Euro, 5), what are my best options?
