Hi!
Over the course of my High School Career, I plan to Self Study two APs, Human Geography and Comparative Government. They are not offered at my school and I am genuinly interested in the subjects. However, I have read conflicting post on how these look to Colleges. Does it show initiative or is it seen as resume padding? Specifically, how do colleges such as Stanford, Wellesley and Brown view this? thanks

Do it because you want to. Not because it looks good.

Thanks! any other opinions?

It certainly doesn’t look bad. I don’t know that it helps that much, though. There are benefits to self-studying, but most of them aren’t related to admissions.

Anyone else?

Yeah, it will add to your application, but not by a ton. There are 2 real reasons to self-study APs: 1) You love the subject and want to learn about it on your own because it’s not offered at your school and/or 2) You will get college credit for a good score. If you will enjoy learning about gov and geo, go for it; otherwise, look up your likely schools and check if they’ll give you credit for taking them. Just so you know- most schools don’t give you much credit for geo.

Hey I self-studied AP Human Geography in 10th grade and just found out I got a 5 its pretty easy for someone who’s into the subject…I read both the Barron’s and Princeton Review. Good luck. XD
