Is there a point in self-studying senior year?

Like, I've already taken 6 AP exams (only gotten the score for one, and it was a 5), and I'm taking 4 or 5 more next year. I'm curious about self-studying, though. I mean, colleges will have no way of knowing that you're self studying, will they? So it doesn't help the application process at all? Is it just to place out of classes or to get extra hours? And if so, does taking 10 actual AP classes by the time I graduate get me enough hours/placement that I don't need to bother with self studying? 'Cause I'm trying to figure out if I should self-study anything. I never have before.
