Semester exams AFTER break

Does anyone else think this is stupid? This is the first year our school is doing this and just causes you not to relax over break. I have so much work for semester reviews instead of a relaxing break!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Why do they do this??????!!!!!!

i have that too, but its 2 wks after break so i dont study until we come back

yeah...it just gives me that feeling of unease as I do nothing...cry. I've had a week, and I've only done like 5 chapters of American Pageant & finished a worksheet...

We do too. Actually, ours aren't until february. So by then, it's really just cramming the week before for everyone. I think very very few people (not even me) study for them over winter break.

My school has them too. It sucks, but hopefully I don't have to study too much.

this is the first year for my school district too cuz the state made us start later. It kinda sucks

My school has this, but I actually like having them at this time. They are a couple weeks after we get back from break so you don't really HAVE to study for them if you don't want to.

Our school's always done second week after break. Really no one worries about it because the last week is like review.

We go back on the 7th of January (I believe) and our semester finals are the last week of January.

Yeah, ours start on the 18th..I really should be revising for my four day ap chem final right now...

my finals r on the last week of january
it sux ):

this crappiness is present at our school as well. =(

Yeah, the semester only ends at the end of January.

I've never had otherwise. =p

Mine are January 14-15. No one ever studies over Christmas break, nor do they really even think about them. But when we come back, it's "Whoa nelly! We've got exams next week!" and then a week of cramming begins. None of the exams are hard enough for me to worry about them until the week before.

My finals are the week of Martin Luther King Jr's Day, the third week of January. They do this because they know we won't do well if we make it the first week after we come back from break. It's a half-week so it won't be an effective dead week either. Thus, they have dead week the week of the 14th and finals week afterwards. It gives the teachers to add on one to two weeks additional information for our finals.

Yeah, we have that as well.

The good thing is, exams are in the last week in January, so I'll have plenty of time to study.

Good luck

Do other schools do the cool thing where exams go over a week and people have at most only a half day of school per day (some have full days off)? Ours does, and it's almost like another vacation. Kinda sort of.

my problem is that the kids at my school all say, "We'll forget EVERYTHING during break!!!" which hopefully isn't true. . .what's the point of going to school if you're going to forget everything within two weeks. . .surely they are better students than that.

In previous years, exams were before break, but it all depends on how early/late school starts in August. It has been changed so many times that there really isn't much consistency. Last year exams were before break, but this year they're the third week of January. We only have two, two hour exams, per day so it's somewhat of a half-day even though there are only 2. That Thursday is usually an early release day and then Friday is a teacher planning day to put in final grades, so it's kind of a free week. I really liked having finals before break though, it was great to finish out several classes and start fresh with the new year.
