Semester in DC

Hello again.

I know this is premature, but does anyone have any feedback on the semester in Washington DC program? Has anyone participated, or know anyone who participated? Is the program very competitive to get into? Did you spend most of your time on American's campus, or did you get out into the central parts of DC?

Thanks.

Hi. My daughter attended Washington Semester at American U. She loved it! She had a terrific internship with a prominent Senator, traveled to Ghana to do an enviro project there, and made many many friends. It has actually inspired her to try to work in D.C. when she graduates from her Master’s program in the spring. You should know that the Wash Semester students have their own small (tiny) campus, and their own classes, and do not interact much with the larger Amer U campus or students. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

That sounds fantastic! Thanks for responding, onceburnt. May I ask whether the trip to Ghana was connected to her work with the Senator, or was it part of her research project?

Also, did your daughter do any study abroad while at Tulane separate from her semester in DC? May I ask what your daughter’s major was at Tulane?

The Ghana trip was part of her research work with a dozen classmates. They traveled with a prof who had done the trip a dozen times. Just to be clear, this DD did not attend Tulane. She was a double major in Econ and Enviro studies at a small midwestern college. Her younger sister is a senior (OMG how can this be) at Tulane. No, she did not also do a foreign semester away but has no regrets.
