Seminars!!

Hey all!
ok seminars. What exactly happens in seminars- like are there quizzes, etc or is it just talking and all.
I would appreciate some details and your own thoughts and opinions :)

and if you guys dont mind, are there any recommendations from the list:

im thinking about taking a seminar, but i just dont know...

thanks

Cult films is really good. I’m not that into movies, but it was my favorite class that quarter. It’s a easy class and the movies are really interesting. Your grade’s based on attendance and a final quiz and final paper. As long as you pay attention is class, you’ll pass the quiz and the paper’s on which was your favorite movie and why or which movie did you hate and why.

You should definitely take the class. Besides, no other class gives you credits for watching movies!

You have a lot of fun in Freshmen seminars. This is where you get to explore the other fields that are not related to your major. There is little to no homework, and no quizzes/tests of any sort. The class is for 1 unit P/NP, so you would probably pass anyways if you just show up and participate. Just choose one that you feel genuinely interested in.

Definitely do a fresh seminar, I wish I had done more! I took like “Econ: real estate” and “Psychology of Laughter.” They are fun and you get to actually meet profs, and good place to make freshman friends. Apparently the “Beatles” one is really good.

Take a seminar in whatever you’re interested in. Most of them are pretty interesting and may help you decide what you want to pursue academically. Global Injustice might be good. I had the same professor for a seminar on Intolerance. She was extremely compassionate and charismatic. I know God, Sex, Chocolate was also in high demand. Honestly, though, choose something you think sounds interesting.

so i chose this seminar. partly because all the other cool ones were taken up [like the heart, and the microbes, and all the science ones] and partly because it fit my schedule and partly because this will help me with my speaking problems and idea sharing stuff :P

Why do so many students seem unable or unwilling to learn mathematics? Which of the difficulties students have in mathematics are due to ineffective instruction and which are inevitable? How can teaching make mathematics stimulating for all students? How can a teaching career be fulfilling?

what do you guys think?

really, this is one area that the opinion should be yours and yours alone.

(if you end up hating it, you can always drop it)

oh i find it interesting, it’s like a mixture of psychology, sociology, and just basic communication skills. but was just wondering if others have taken it before and all and their opinions and all… hmm guess you are right astrina. lol

thanks!

^I took the science equivalent of that math education class. If you’re interested in math education, you’ll probably enjoy. If you’re not, you probably won’t. I would say go for it though.
