Senate Page Program

im currently a sophomore and I would be applying for the page program the summer after my junior year, so summer 2018.

What are some things I should do then to help my chances of getting accepted?

My Ecs relating to politics are debate and MUN, should I join more political oriented Ecs?

When should I start my App?

I’m currently trying to intern/ volunteer for my senator and local congressmen, not sure how its going to go but hoping for the best.

My gpa is around a 3.6-3.8

I would like to apply to this program as well. All the Congressmen in my state have stopped their participation in the program. Therefore, I must apply through one of the two senators from my state who are both members of the other political party. I wish there was another way. Can I apply in the state where my grandparents live?

I think youre allowed to be sponsored by out of state senators, but they like to pick applicants within their own state but its worth a try to contact them and ask

Applying for Dianne feinstein this year, and I’m going to have my interview soon!

@uraveragehssoph I was a semester Page, and I do really recommend, since you do have the time to do so, that you consider the semester program. The summer program is a lot more about connections than a resume. Don’t get me wrong, there are definitely well-known names in the semester program too, but there’s probably a better chance (depending on your prospective sponsor) to get in during the semester. (It’s also a better program, if I do say so myself haha). In the end, your resume is great, but it only gets you so far. Try to connect with someone in politics who can write you a letter of rec.

@oak2maple There is no House Page program anymore, so it wasn’t up to your congressmen unfortunately! I would still recommend applying in your state. I actually was a Page for the opposite political party as well. It’s a non-partisan position though. Yes, you will work for primarily the side of the aisle you’re on, but since you’re not doing any substantive political work as a Page, it didn’t make much of a difference. Actually, the vast majority of my class were on the wrong side of the aisle from their political views!

Annie4564 that’s so great. Have you heard anything from Feinstein’s office yet? I haven’t applied for the Page program but I’m curious what their phone interview was like. I’m thinking of applying for the program next year. I don’t have much work experience (hoping to gain some this summer) what types of ECs and work experience do you have? Any guidance would be much appreciated.

In regards to the summer page program, …is the Senate Page Program for those entering their Junior Year or for those finished with their Junior year? It says the program is for Juniors, I am a current sophomore, am I eligible for this summer? Also, when is the usual deadline to apply by?

It can be either summer.

Hi @uraveragehssoph ! So I am a junior who just recently was accepted to be a summer page for 2017! I can’t tell you about the experience, but here is what my application experience has been like. So a few months ago I applied to have an internship at the particular senator’s office and got accepted. I work very hard at my internship and when the time rolled around for Page applications I decided to apply, the office that I work for also told the DC office that they highly recommended me. I applied less than 24 hours before the application process closed.

I am from a middle class family with little to no connections, so everything I’ve gotten I have done by myself. There are many people who try to get this experience through their families, but if you really want this you have to work even harder.

To give you some of my qualifications I have my internship, am captain of my school’s Model UN and Mock Trial teams. I am taking 2 AP classes, and 2 duel enrollment classes (taught at my school, but I get college credit). I also play a varsity sport and am part of an internationally known leadership group. I have a GPA of 3.75.

After I applied I emailed the office 2-3 times with clarifying things for my application and questions about finding out the acceptance. I got a phone call last week telling me of my acceptance and am waiting for an info packet about the program to arrive any day now.

I hope this helps you! Good luck!

I just got in too! Which senator gave you a nomination? I’m a military brat; however, I’m currently in NY, so mine was Schumer. What session are you attending?

@MarkowPolo22 As a fellow New Yorker may I ask what session you are going for? I assume it is summer because Schumer’s website implies that he only sponsors for the summer. That is a bit annoying for me since I would love to go during the spring for the reasons that @il0510 outlined.

Does anyone have any tips on how to get in contact with/ convince out of state senators to let me apply for their program if I am unable to be sponsored by an instate senator. How much more difficult do you think it is to get in out of state? I made a list of every senator who has a thing on their website about sponsoring and page and noticed that that some of them do not explicitly say that they require in state so I figure I should start there. Would it be a waste of my time to email senators who have no website information just to see if they ever sponsor?
