Senate Page Program

Hey everyone! I’m currently sophomore in high school and I was thinking of applying for the summer 2016 session of the senate page program. Does anyone have any experience with this program? I live in NJ and have contacted my senators (Menendez and Booker) and I have yet to receive a response (I’m planning on calling their offices next week). However most of the leadership opportunities available at my school are only attainable once you’re a junior, so I was wondering whether you could also apply for the summer outgoing your junior year.

I have experience with the senate page program, I was a page last summer. You can also apply for the summer outgoing your junior year, as long as you are 17 or younger going into the program. I suggest you apply now though, so if you don’t get in you have another opportunity to get in you can apply again. Good luck!!!

What types of extracurriculars and qualifications did you have at the time that you applied? Do you recommend calling the senators office, because they have still not answered my emails.

I’m sure @choirlover01 will respond, but I came across this just now and figured I’d put in my two cents too. I’ve found that summer tends to be very competitive and also very “connections-based”. In my opinion, the greatest thing you could do for your application is try to get a letter of recommendation from some government official (a state rep for example). As far as EC’s, I had been a Section Leader in my band and had been on student council. That was basically it. Every Senator chooses their pages based on different qualifications. I had also volunteered with my State Senator’s campaign. Yes, I would recommend calling the office and asking for whoever coordinates Pages. You’re probably more likely to have luck with Sen. Menendez since he’s been there longer.

@choirlover01 @il0510 I’m planning on applying to the 2017 summer session II and I’m from California with Senator Dianne Feinstein. I don’t have any connections to the senator whatsoever, and I’m planning on getting a recommendation letter from my English teacher. Is that a good choice, or should I ask my school principal instead? However, I do a lot of advocacy work regarding gender equality and I’m on my county’s youth commission. Do you guys have any tips on applying and could you please share your experiences as a senate page? Thank you so much and I really appreciate it!
