currently a junior in high school
UW- freshman year i had a 3.72 gpa, sophomore year a 3.62, but this year it looks like a 4.0
weighted out of 6.0 is 5.4
SAT- 1570 (i’ve only taken it once and i’m not sure if I want to take it again)
I took all honors classes and all the APs that my school offers (my school doesn’t offer too many)
in the beginning of high school i thought i was going to pursue medicine but i’m pretty sure now that’s not what i want to do, i’m probably going to end up doing something business-related but i’m not completely sure yet
Anyways, in terms of schools I want to go to here is a list: UC Berkeley, UCLA, USC, UC Davis, Georgetown, Brown, Yale
I am OOS for the UCs I just really want to go to college in california. My state school is rutgers where I will be applying as a safety.
For EC I have been learning piano for about ten years and vocal training for five
I also have a portfolio of original music which would be amazing if I could include in my application
For community service type things I did a crowdfunding program where I raised over $26,000 for adults on the autism spectrum, I was even featured on Fox News
I also did a Summer @ Brown program this summer
Anyways, I know my application isn’t too strong I just want to know if there is anything else I could do. Also, this summer if I should get an internship or a job or focus on community service. I just need a bit of advice since I’m really confused.
Also, if I do get an internship what kind of organizations should I be looking at since I’m unsure about what I want to do with my life

Can your parents pay for the UC’s: $60K/year with no financial aid for OOS students??

Run the Net Price calculators to make sure any schools on your list are affordable.

Retaking a 1570 would be crazy. That’s a superb score–no need to take again. Do you know what your cumulative UW GPA will be after this year if you hold that 4.0 for 11th grade?

You’ll probably have a decent shot at the schools on your list, but it’s important to remember that nobody is a shoe-in for schools like Brown and Yale. While Rutgers is a good safety, you might want to select a couple others so you’ll have a better selection if all else fails. You seem to dislike NJ a lot from the tone of your post–would you be happy to attend Rutgers if you had to?

How much are your parents willing to pay? Have you talked to them? The UC’s will be very expensive OOS, as will the other privates on your list. Depending on financial limitations, consider applying to the University of Alabama and other schools that offer big merit for kids of your academic caliber. Especially if you’re unsure of what you want to do and if you want to pursue grad school or not, avoiding as many loans as possible could be a positive. Just something to look into.

It’s also completely okay to not know what you want to do. Many kids go in undeclared, and even those who go in knowing what they want to do also change their minds. It’s normal.

As far as interning, for right now, try to find something you’re genuinely interested in. It’s better to stay true to yourself in your EC’s instead of trying to show colleges a version of yourself that you think they want.

You have many accomplishments thus far in your life, and that’s something to be proud of! No matter what decisions come your way next year, you will end up somewhere great.

My cumulative GPA if my grades follow the current trend this year should be about a 3.78
Also, in terms of finances my parents are fine sending me anywhere, we have discussed this before and there are no worries about having to take out student loans or anything like that (:
Thanks so much!

Just to clarify: As a student, you can only take out a total of $27K for 4 years in loans. Anything beyond the $27K will be up to your parents so they are OK in paying $240K at some of these OOS schools?

Yeah, my parents have no problem with that
