Send my own Recommendation letter?

Okay, I'm not going to write my own recommendation letter but my teachers telling me to bring my laptop to school, so they will sit with me and fill up the common app form. My teachers are a bit old they are not familiar with the using computer. Will it be a problem if my common app and recommendation letters gets submitted from the same IP address? Will colleges think that I'm cheating?

I even have to make them a email address so that I can send them the link. I'm so confused! Will it be okay to do that?

They aren’t going to care nor check IP addresses.

Ohh it’s great then!

BTW: can’t your LORs be just scanned docs? Wouldn’t uploading a pdf be easier?

Yeah, I have to convert the docs to pdf then submit it via common app

Actually, for most colleges, they want confidential recommendations, so you would be violating that since you must see the recommendation in order to upload it for them. And likely you have to digitally sign that you are the person.

You need to talk to your GC - your GC would be the one to act as the intermediary for them, not you.

It could jeopardize your application and status at the school if you are accepted. But if you aren’t worried about that, go ahead and make up email addresses for other people, and upload documents as if you were them.

It is not my choice to upload this files on my own, I would have loved if they could have done it on their own. The problem is neither my GC nor my teachers good at working on a computer so I will do what they tells me to do. This is the last thing I can do.

Have these teachers not written a LOR in the past 5 years? Do you have a guidance counselor or office staff at your school? For the sake of other students in the school, it would be good for the teachers or the guidance office to create a process to handle letters confidentially.

I’m a international student, not many students apply to US from my school. They aren’t familiar with this process.

So: are they doing this for all of their students? Or are there other teachers at the school who would help you in this regard?

It is a breach of trust to upload your own recommendations. I would say that before I would upload teacher recommendations on my own for my college app, I would contact each college and ask if I could have the teachers send a paper recommendation via regular mail.

I cannot imagine a school in this day and age where no teachers and no GCs and not even the principal have basic computer knowledge. Aren’t they helping you with the Common App at all? Do you have a computer teacher at the school?

There are people in my schools who are familiar using computers but my teacher wants me (partially I want it as well) to help them with the common app. Since it’s a delicate process I do not want anything happens to my application for any silly mistakes.
