Send off Party Ideas

Hi,
I know I am jumping the gun a little, but as thoughts turn towards acceptances (hopefully) on March 10th, has anyone given any thought into what they will do to throw a party before their kids set off for the big, wide world of boarding school? I am hoping to do something fun, creative and memorable :)

Ours wasn’t creative. My daughter didn’t want a big send-off. Instead she requested an early birthday party at a nice restaurant for her closest friends. Then she and her friends spent the evening shopping and going to the movies and having their own private goodbyes. (we weren’t allowed to attend the latter) It was a mix of both boys and girls. They took tons of photos of themselves goofing around and saying goodbye and hugging which I found heartwarming and poignant at the same time.

We did an end of summer pool party. I asked everyone to send pictures of themselves ahead of time. I put together a collage of pictures w/friends and family and framed it using one of those ‘write-on’ mats. And then during the party, we asked everyone to sign the mat and write a short note. She keeps it in her dorm room at school.

A friend put together a picture slide show of my d and all of her friends and family. Everyone had a good time watching that.

Otherwise, nothing too original. Just kids, swimming, food and cake. We did put a picture of her school on the cake too.

@ExieMIT: Sounds like a perfect party… very sweet and just what your daughter wanted!
@jaharrison: Great ideas… love the cake and the collage idea. Oh, and the pool party idea, too

Thanks for your suggestions!
