Do people have to officially send out their AP scores?
this may sound like an obvious question but I know that Brown Univ.
doesn't require it!

Help! hurry!

Help! hurry!

No.

this post is 10 characters.

^umm…huh?
sorry i don’t know what “10 characters” is…

Each post on CC needs to be 10 characters. I wrote that to fulfill that.

The answer to your original question is no.

Most AP scores are self reported and you send official scores next summer after you have selected your school (and your senior year scores are in) if you are going some place that gives credit.

^^
Does this mean that AP scores do not necessarily influence your chances of acceptance/consideration for merit money? If so and this means I do not have to rush to get D2’s scores in…then that’s less stress for me!

It seems as though most colleges do not use AP scores as admissions criteria. My daughter only took three tests before senior year and then took five her senior year. She did have colleges comment on the rigorous course load she was taking senior year (it was awful for her, I might add).

High schools have so many different rules for who takes AP classes and how many students can take that my guess is that colleges decided not to get into the whole scores game–not to mention it is really expensive to send those scores.

Before the decision is made in May where a child will attend, it might pay to check what colleges are the most generous with AP credit (usually state schools are pretty liberal–gets you through the tax-supported system quicker). AP credit can provide a nice cushion to students who want to double major.

The scores are primarily used after a student is accepted and pays his/her deposit. The scores are then sent to the college and evaluated for credit. I am guessing that colleges trust the self-reporting of scores.

^ @TootheSky: thanks!

as for the sending out SAT scores…
do you have to do that by the deadline??

Yeah, but as far as I know just send them before the deadline. No need to send them using the rush service. Even though it says that it will take a few weeks, I think colleges get them electronically much quicker. At least that’s what the word on the street is around here.

I think NYU is one of the only schools i know where you may be able to “send in” three AP scores INSTEAD of SAT or ACT…but for every other school, you don’t send them. You pretty much just self report on the common app, and leave it at that…they don’t look at the scores too much, I don’t think.

edit: oops! sorry TotheSky–I spelled your name wrong!

so… will hurt me a lot if i send the SAT scores a day late…?
