Sending Current SAT & New SAT to colleges?

Hi I’m a current Junior and I plan on taking the SAT 3 times.

I’m planning on taking my very 1st SAT on January 23rd. New SAT will take in effect after that and I plan on taking the new SAT on June 4 and in the fall my senior year.
I was wondering if it’s possible to take both the new and current one and send them to colleges.

Would it be bad if I take the current SAT 1 times and the new SAT 2 times?

Yes, it is possible. My D is also going to take the old, the new, and the ACT. The disadvantage is that they can’t superscore the old with the new. Other than that, I think colleges will expect to see all possible combinations of these tests from the class of 2017. They can’t hold it against you, its not your fault your class got caught in the middle of this transition.

All the colleges that have announced anything so far say that either the current SAT or the new one to begin in March will be accepted for those applying for entry into freshman class of 2017. Some of those. Penn being the most prominent example, are also dropping any requiirement that you take the writing section on the new SAT and also dropping it for the ACT. What some of them which usually superscore SATs have said is that they will superscore the old tests and superscore the new ones but not the combination of the two; instead, if you submit both, they will use the test that is deemed to be be better for you in the decison process.

In any event the trend is definitely that the colleges will acceept either (and both) and likely do that for a few years. Nevertheless, you will need to check the rules of each college to which you may apply because there are differences shaping up on the issues of whether the writing is required and how superscoring will work.
