Hello, I am going to be a junior this upcoming hyear and I am studying to get around a 2000 for the sat for colleges like Texas, Georgetown, Johns Hopkins, Florida, and Washington. I definitely want to take the current SAT at least once because I don’t want to be a guinea pig for college board. I can not trust to put all my marbles in the new unpredictable SAT. I know that students always do better on the SAT the 2nd time, so I was wondering if I took the current SAT this October and again in January for a better score. Then I tried new SAT next March and again fall of my senior year for a total of 4 times taking the test. I was wondering if that is a bad idea and looks bad to colleges. Usually 4 times is too many for a college’s liking, but only 2 times for each version. I want to have the best chance to get a good SAT and I don’t want to only take each version once and risk not getting the maximum possible points I could
Thanks
As a fellow Junior, I plan to do the same thing
I hope colleges won’t care because of the two versions thing, and I mean a good SAT score will likely outweigh taking the test four times anyway
@helpless2017 Thanks for sharing that. That makes me feel a little bit better on this. Are there any other students who have an opinion on this matter, or someone else who is not a student and has a strong opinion on this.
Thanks
I’m a rising junior as well, and I agree with you guys. I’m planning on taking the old SAT in November, and again in January if necessary, and I’ll try the new SAT in March/April perhaps. I also wanna get an ACT in there but not sure when. At one point I wondered if I was taking too many tests, but then again, they’re all different. Idk how to prepare for the new pSAT so I’m kinda gonna wing it based on the knowledge I have so far, but I’ve been studying all summer for old SAT.
Another point- I got CollegeBoard’s new SAT book, and was excited to find KhanAcademy also had new exams and scoring scales, but then dejected to find the tests are the same. This is really bothering me- however, I’m just glad they at least gave us 4 practice tests.
It just sucks with this whole new version thing. I really wanted to do fall junior year, spring junior year, and fall senior year. I really thought I would definitely be able to get 2000+ by senior year. Now I am being forced to getting that by January junior year.
@WHSTrojan yeah I think I am going to do what I came up with earlier. I’ll take it this year in October, and January. Then try new SAT next year and take it again senior year only if I am 100% sure I will do better.
