Hi, I recently won 4th place individual and 5th place team in a local computer science competition. This competition is not a major coding competition like Code Wars, and I did not win 1st or 2nd. So, I’m wondering if I should send an email to the colleges I’m applying and tell them that I won 4th and 5th in a local computer science competition. I’m scared that they would find my update on my resume to be insignificant and annoying. Should I send an email telling the colleges I’m applying to that I won 4th and 5th place in a competition? Or is that too unnecessary of an update?
Oops I forgot to say that I am currently a senior in high school that has already submitted his applications
bump :)?
You can send a note of continued interest, report about the progress you’ve made in classes (doing well, etc) and mention the awards.
No.
Unless the award is at the national level, I would not bother sending in an update. Updating every award received is a great way to get you remembered, but not in a good way.
It depends on the colleges and how many competitors there were, IMHO.
@skieurope thank you for ur response
@intparent I applied to some colleges in the top 10 list, should I bother sending them additional awards?
@lostaccount thank you for ur response also!
Depends… my kid had a couple of top 5 finishes in state-level competitions during this window, and sent them to a couple of top schools. She got in – so it didn’t hurt her.
