Sending in all SAT scores

Hi guys,

So some colleges on my list require me to send in all SAT scores and I’m not too upset about sending in both my SAT I’s but my SAT II’s are another story. I took 2 subject tests at the end of sophomore year and did very poorly on both of them (I received a 680) because I did not study that much and I was very sick the week before and during the test. I did retake chemistry and got an 800 on it but that original 680 though… Would this look bad? I did hear that retaking SAT subjects do not look good and I wasn’t very educated in the college process during sophomore year :frowning: Of course, in the end, there is nothing I can do about it even if it does hurt me but I just wanted to know.

As you probably already know, some schools require you to send all scores (definitely do this, don’t hide any from them) but many other schools allow “score choice” where you can just send your best scores.

I recommend you take SAT IIs again, maybe NOT pre-selecting score-choice schools to get the free score report. Wait and see how you did before deciding whether to send scores. It’s more expensive unfortunately.

Although schools generally claim to ‘only consider the highest score,’ the reality is they see all the scores submitted and still are more impressed if there are no lower scores in there.

Good luck.

In your opinion. In my opinion, sometimes, like here, you just need to take the college at its word. Regardless, an 800 supersedes the 680 in the same subject.

I’d posit whoever told you that was not educated in the college process either. Retaking is fine, unless it’s obsessive (like retaking a 790 to get an 800). Anybody can have a bad test day.

I was told by a former AO at Stanford that a single sitting 750 is ‘better’ than showing both a 690 and 750, for example. So there is basis for my ‘opinion.’
