Sending in newspaper?

I was deferred from Brown and I’m writing a letter to my Admissions Officer in January, explaining some accomplishments I’ve made since submitting my app. One of my major extracurriculars is that I am a student editor for a teen-oriented newspaper distributed to schools in multiple high school counties. The paper is “for teens by teens”, which gives it a really unusual spin(along with the fact that it is sponsored by a professional paper company and is produced weekly for all schools as opposed to one).

Since submitting my app, a weekly feature page that I spearheaded and maintain has become an official part of the paper, and is now a permanent addition. Because the paper is (dare I say it) radically different from a traditional school paper, I’m considering sending a full copy of the paper to my admissions officer, with annotations about my page as well as work that I completed. I wanted to survey CC’s opinion on whether or not this is a good idea. I didn’t know if it would bother the officer or not, although I think seeing the paper would really cement how professional it is.

Ask the admissions officer before you send it, explaining in a line or two why you would like to include it. High chance that he wouldn’t say no - but its always better to ask.

Not sure about Brown, but I know that its peer institutions discourage sending supplemental materials as such, mainly because its not entirely relevant to the admissions process and takes too much time to evaluate.
