Sending in the 2010 tax return

Just checking -- all schools asking for the CSS profile get a copy of the tax return right?

Should I ask if schools taking the FAFSA also want the tax return? or wait till they ask us? I'd like to maximize our opportunity for aid.

Also - my tax return is huge... 16 pages assuming they only need the Federal return... They don't need state right?. Should I be sending all 16 pages?

Thanks,
Rachel

No, that isn’t right. Only schools that ask for your tax return or say that all applicants have to send in a tax return get one. Many schools don’t want or need it. Only if they do ask and only what they want. Some schools only want the first two pages. Others want all schedules and worksheets. ASk the colleges.

from the IDOC instructions page…

"A complete signed copy of your 2010 federal income tax return (or a translated copy of your country’s equivalent), including all required Schedules and all Partnership or Corporate returns, is required if you filed or will file a federal income tax return for 2010. Do not send tax worksheets unless required for submission to the IRS. Do not send state tax returns or previous years’ returns unless you are specifically instructed to. "

Thanks coquimom - I wonder about Fafsa only schools.
