sending in the application early...

so harvard wants the applications in by dec 1

my question is that if i retook an SAT II in november, should i wait until my score comes out so i can put it on the application or should i just submit now? does it really matter if it goes on the application now because they're getting the score sent to them anyway? i'm just afraid my first score would look really bad...

bump bump....

come on...123 views and no responses?

Why send in your application early? Contrary to public belief, it's not going to raise your admission chances. Just wait to see what your scores look like and see if you want to send them or not etc.

sorry, i phrased my original post incorrectly, i'm retaking a subject test in December, which is after the date they suggest applications to be submitted, my question is, should i wait until i get my score so i can put in on the commonapp, or should i just submit by dec 1?

They want them by January 1st. December is the priority deadline I believe.

Just send your app in before December 1st indicating that you are taking the test in December, and set Harvard as one of your automatic score recipient schools.

Self-reported scores don't really matter a whole lot.

@ OP: harvard recommends you to have your stuff submitted by december 1. this is by no means a compulsory deadline. you can do the SAT test up until december.

I sent my application in two weeks ago (along with my yale SCEA and princeton applications).

I decided to just send it off because I used the exact same essays for all three. I figured that whatever I sent for my Yale EA application would be good enough for Harvard so I just did it.

plus, why not send it early... the supplement literally takes 3 seconds to complete.

^hehehehe my misuse of "literally" humors me

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if i could ask a question about the priority deadline. I know that it's not at all a compulsory deadline but do you have to submit your app by 12/1 if you want to get an interview? So far, three of my friends have already submitted their harvard apps and I feel like maybe I should do the same. I live in the greater boston area and in the past years, harvard has come to our school to interview the kids... but I'm not sure how it's being done this year, as in will they interview those kids and not necessairly the others who apply later?

Also, what exactly is Harvard wanting us to send by 12/1? Are they asking just for the common app(which can be done online) or their supplementary materials?

Thank you in advance for all your help!

Filing the first part of your application (just your contact information) is a courtesy to the admission office and a convenience to yourself, because until you have submitted contact information for your application, the admission office has no way to schedule an interview for you. You will get an interview if you meet the hard deadline of January 1st and don't refuse contact with the alumni interviewers, but it is more convenient for you and for them to have more weeks of possible meeting times available to schedule your interviewer. That's the main reason to submit that information before the final, absolute deadline for applying.

Good luck in your applications.

im really wondering about this..
what does sending the application by priority deadline do to you?

^ wondering that as well. bump.

^
I have a question... are we disadvantaged in any way if we choose to send our apps in a little AFTER 12/1 (like say, 12/8 or something?) I just got off the phone with the admissions officer that we will get an interview even if we sent our apps in a little after the deadline... Then, what does the priority deadline really do for us? Is it just an arbitrary date to encourage people to send their apps in not right before 1/1?

I have heard from some people and also received an email from Harvard saying that sending in your Common App the sooner the better. Is that true? Here is an excerpt from the email.

"We have already begun our careful evaluation process, reading applications in the order in which they are completed. All applicants and their guidance counselors and teachers are encouraged to submit their application materials by December 1st, a month ahead of the January 1 deadline."

Do you guys think it will increase chances if App is sent it early (i.e. Dec. 1-ish)?

Thanks for the help.

Harvard College Admissions Office: Prospective Students

December 1

We will begin our careful evaluation process on this date, reading applications in the order in which they are completed.

Our alumni/ae interviewers will appreciate your sending at least the Common Application/Universal Application by this date to allow them to begin the interviewing process in areas where this is possible.

We recognize that you and your secondary school teachers and counselors may have many commitments that may preclude December 1 submission of your admission materials. If so, please be assured that you will not be penalized in any way.
