Would it be a good idea to send a picture of yourself with an application, even if the college doesn't ask for it? I have a couple of good pictures of me at a couple of colleges I am applying to, would the picture help?

No. Don't send it, unless you are applying to a particular college specializing in modeling as a major.

Unless it is Columbia, Penn, or other colleges that specifically request a picture, do not send a picture.

i disaggree. if your app makes you seem like a totally not well rounded person (read: stereotypical dork) and you looook otherwise, i think its not a bad idea to send a pic. if your pretty good looking it also can't hurt. just dont send a bunch of pics--thatll look vain.

On my d's "brag sheet", we decided to experiment with pictures.

Settled on scanning one into the document - a small 2 x 2 size at the top of her sheet to the right of her name.

She brought it in for the guidance counselor to put in her file (the g.c. likes to collect them to show to future college candidates to show them how to do certain things). She was wowed by the whole presentation - said that it will really make her stand out.

Anything extraneous to the application will either be useless or, unfortunately, hurt. I don't believe for a moment that sending unasked for picture can help - there is no reason for things to work that way in college admissions. My $0.02.
