Sending recommendations before submitting app

Hi,

I'm applying to Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, MIT, Cornell, Pennsylvania, Caltech, Duke, Carnegie Mellon, and New York, and I'm not sending off my Common Applications till November at the earliest.

If I finish working with a teacher a lot earlier than December, can I ask them to send off the recommendations without me having submitted the rest of the Common App yet? Or can I ask them to write the recommendations, but then give them to me so I can send them off with the rest of my app much later in the year?

Thanks.

You can send recommendation letters before you submit the common app. However, I wouldn’t send them until after the summer.

I’ll finish working with one of the possible recommenders before the summer ends (I’m homeschooled, you see, and so I don’t have an ordinary timetable). Why wouldn’t you send them beforehand?

Also, should I waive my right to see the recommendation?
