Sending SAT II in Jan: Bad idea?

^How does that matter?

What rhg3rd is saying is that at schools where the SAT II is recommended, having it is just a nice ‘plus,’ and it isn’t going to keep your application from being ‘finished’ in any way, so they’ll put it in a stack to be read. At schools like Dartmouth, where the SAT II is required, the app is going to be flagged as imcomplete until the scores come in, and they absolutely will not read it if the scores aren’t there.

Well, all but two of the schools I’m applying to (UChic and Smith) explicitly require two SAT IIs. Including Duke (since I’ve taken only the SAT, not ACT). So for me, it’ll be the same case in every school.
I emailed the schools. A number of them replied saying it won’t affect my chances of admission negatively even if I send in one score late… I’m hoping that’s true? :/

I’m wondering the same thing for penn and swarthmore. I took the dec sats and acts and sent them when i registered. I want to take the january sats II but I don’t know if it’s too late or not.

As long as they say it’s okay, then it’s okay. Historically, the ACT was the test for the Midwest and the SAT for the East and West. The unstated fact is that the SAT I and subjects still is preferred at many places. The ACT simply is not the equivalent of SAT I + 2 subjects. Applicants are really are better off applying with SAT’s + 2 subjects. Dartmouth views the ACT for what is really is: a substitute for the SAT I.

Why Smith, which is all women? If you just want a top LAC with a high admit rate that you can use as a backup, Reed would be a good choice. It’s just as good as Wesleyan if not better.

PS: LOL - My mom when to Smith in the 1930’s.

^I am considering Smith only as a backup, because I feel fairly confident of getting in. Honestly, I picked it at the last minute when I realised I didn’t have any good safeties. However, I HAVE heard great things about its English dept, too.

Once you get out of the Northeast, there are more options like Oberlin, Carleton and Reed which are highly regarded. It’s hard to say how good an LAC’s English department is without talking about the students that are in it. There’s a ranking of which college’s have the highest Ph.D. productivity rate in English Literature for women. See [REED COLLEGE FEMALE PHD PRODUCTIVITY](Reed College | Institutional Research | REED COLLEGE FEMALE PHD PRODUCTIVITY). Swarthmore, Amherst, Reed, Oberlin and Carleton are coed LAC’s in the top ten. This may be some indication of program strength or quality of teaching.

Hopefully everything will be fine. Penn says that they take the jan sats I and II but I’m still worried that it might be too late since the scores will be recieved in February. I’m so paranoid.

^I’m so paranoid, too! But yeah, let’ s hope for the best…
Btw, nyiyenvo, if you’re sending additional scores, that is definitely fine. I’m worried cause I’m contemplating sending only one SAT II score now, and the other in Jan, which means they’ll receive a complete set of my scores only in Jan.
