I need to send my 2007 taxes to 5 different schools (schools that use CSS Profile) I am a bit confused ,however, on the amount of info I should be sending. It states: W-2's, 1099 forms (signed), and ALL the schedules for federal.

That is approx 25 pages for each school! Is that really what they want?

Does anyone else have experience with this? I just don't want to make 125 copies of my taxes and send them out only to find out that I sent too much.

the schools my s applied to want only w2 and the return. couple of schools asked for docs to be sent thru IDOC--so only one copy and then forwarded to schools.

I only had to send all 2007 federal tax forms and schedules (not state) plus w-2's (not 1099's) Mine ended up being about 15 pages to each of 3 schools.

Wow...you must have a LOT of schedules that you filled out. You need to mail to the school all the same "stuff" that you sent with your return...so that is the full return including all schedules and all W-2 and 1099 forms.

Our experience was that different schools wanted different things. I put together a spreadsheet with financial aid requirements for each school. I don't suggest sending in any more than what they require; the schools have enough paperwork as it is.

Schedules are the other forms that are part of your tax return. They are lettered (schedule A, schedule B, etc) or numbered. They include things like itemized deductions, child care forms etc. ANY additional IRS form that was submitted with your tax return should be sent...in addition to your W-2 and 1099 forms.

I scanned mine into one file and emailed it to schools, saving my ink, paper, etc, plus I put a return receipt on it, so I had proof it was received

Thumper, each school did not ask for my son's ssn but his college id number (which was different for each school). Therefore, I could have not done what you suggested.

However, next year, when we are only dealing with one school, you better believe I will scan and e-mail just as somemom did....just more great advice from another cc poster.
