Hello CC! As a senior I'm quite concerned about my current schedule and I want to see everyone's opinions. I attend a technical school where we have a block schedule system. In addition to my technical course( Pharmacy), I'm taking 7 AP courses in total for the year. 4 in school and 3 online outside of school. The online classes run throughout the year but in-school AP classes only last one semester. So here are all of the classes I'm taking.

First Semester:
AP Gov
AP Micro
AP Stats( online)
AP Art History( online)
AP Computer Science A( online)
Pharmacy

Second semester( starts in January)
AP Environmental science
AP Lit
Pharmacy

I'm sorry I know my schedule looks very confusing with online courses and the block schedule system. But my main concern is my AP statistics class... Last year I took pre-calculus and AP Calculus AB is the highest level of math offered in my school. I was thinking of doing that but I realized my course load is already too heavy. Right now I have a free period in school to work on my online classesl. Do you think it will look bad that I didn't take AP Calc AB? Should I replace my free period with AP Calc AB?

Yes, you should take Calc AB.

@guineagirl96 Is there any good reason for that though? Like does it look better than AP stats?

Yes, AP Calc AB will look far, far better than AP Stats

AP Calc AB is not that hard, so don’t worry too much. But AP Stats is considered to be one of the easiest AP classes by colleges so it does not look very good.

I would opt for Calc AB over AP Stats.

The thing is… I cannot drop out of AP stats because it’s online. If I do, I will have a WP/withdrawal passing on my transcript. I’m not sure how bad that looks to colleges either but in the AP Calc AB class in my school, the teacher doesn’t teach and the kids literally learn from reading textbooks in class. Also, it’s a mixed class with both honors kids and AP kids. I don’t know if I can handle all these classes together on top of studying for the SAT and applying to colleges.

sorry, for the late response (packing for college). I think you could handle both. However, if you decide to drop stat, Im sure a WP wouldn’t hurt your transcript if you wrote in the additional info on your app that you withdrew because you decide to take calc (a higher level course). A withdraw pass would be bad if you switched to an easier class or to a free period. Agree with what everyone above has said above AP stat.

I say take what you’re more interested in. Don’t just do something to impress a college and don’t worry about it looking “bad.” You’re still taking an AP class and and have a lot of other APs to worry about, so I don’t think a college will judge you for taking one math class over the other, especially if you do really well in it.
