Hi, I'm a rising senior and I'm having so much trouble with my senior year schedule. I thought I had it all figured out, but apparently I don't.

My schedule for next year so far is

AP Lit
AP US Gov/AP Microecon
AP Calc AB
AP Stats
Spanish IV

However, my mom doesn't want me to take two math APs because she think it will be too hard on me. I'm not planning to major in anything related to math or science in college, as I am strictly inclined towards the humanities. I thought taking two AP maths would fulfill my mandatory college math credit for good, and I would have time to take more classes related to my major.

But my mom still advises me against taking both stats and calc AB, so I'm thinking of dropping one.

If I drop either Calc AB or Stats, which one should I drop?
An what class should I replace it with? I can replace it with any of the following: AP Bio, AP Art History, AP Environmental Science

Yeah, I'm looking at top LACs like Williams, Claremont Mckenna, etc.

Thanks!

Two math classes are terrible. If you drop one, I’d drop Stats. Calculus is the common class in the college level, and you’d probably want to do the harder class this year.

Actually, those classes are easy to take together. You should be fine. They are different types of math. One of my friends this year is a junior who took multivar/linear and stat this year. It’s not common, but it definitely isn’t hard.

My counselor recommends you double on on those two classes, actually xD I think you won’t have any trouble :)

Stats is barely a math. I took dual-enrollment Calc I and Stats together this year and it wasn’t bad.

I think you’d be fine taking both…they’re not very similar, but even if they were I don’t see what the big deal is about taking two math classes. (Statistics is more of a separate field that uses a lot of math.)

Yup, I know Stats is a really easy class (or so I’ve heard) so I think I ll take it.
My dilemma is with Calc AB. I’m in pre calc this year, but the teacher moved really slowly so we didn’t cover even half of the book. We’re currently on ch 6 learning law of sines and cosines.
That being said, I know absolutely nothing about limits and integrals…do you guys think AP Calc AB will be very challenging for me? I’m a B student in math

How did you do in/with Trig? My DS said it was the hardest part of Calc AB. He was in AP Calc BC, but the first half was AB, and he did leaps and bounds better once they got through Trig. If you did okay, then it would be good if you stuck with both AB and Stats. But, if you are paralyzed by the thought of both, then get rid of Stats.

These are calculus topics. Limits are sometimes taught in pre-calculus classes, but you’re not expected to know about them going into calculus. Integrals don’t come up right away even in a calculus class.
Trigonometry shows up throughout calculus.
