Senior class list - is it too weak?

I want to get into at least NCSU or UCF
My ACT is 27 GPA is 3.1 uw/w

My senior class load is:

1 AP Stats
2 AP Econ
3 AP Psych 2nd Semester
4 AP Gov 1st Semester
5 IB Enviro
6 Honors Creative Writing
7 Advanced Weight Training 1st semester
8 Lunch
9 Free
10 Free

I took AP Bio as a Sophomore, So as an OOS URM male will this schedule be good enough to have a strong chance... I have a lot of leadership ECs

What kind of grades can you pull in those classes? 4 APs is impressive, but not at the expense of low grades and with only a 3.1 UW GPA, you need to make sure you can pull as strong a set of grades as possible, not bog yourself down with classes that will cause you to get Cs.

Your uw GPA is likely too low right now for UCf - their lowest reported wGPA is 3.5 and it goes up to 4.2, with an average of of 3.8. UCF has become almost as competitive as FSU. With a 3.1, you’d be in the bottom 5% of the class, and you can bet that all those admitted in this category are highly sought after athletes.
So apply to UCF “just to see” in september but think about other schools.

Include USF and UNF on your list as your odds would be better there. Apply early in the Fall (September?) when admissions are a bit easier. Look into other Florida schools where you stand a chance: Rollins (reach), Flagler, Eckerd,(esp. strong in creative writing and biology/marine science), UTampa. Since you’re willing to consider NCSU, look into Appalachian State and UNC-W but universities in North Carolina are capped for OOS applicants and are thus very, very difficult to get into (the in-state stats are very misleading for OOS applicants).
What other states would you be willing to consider? Can we think that Mississippi, Georgia, South Carolina, and Alabama are all in play or do you have preferences? What about Arkansas, Missouri, Tennessee, Kentucky?

Don’t take an AP class in a subject where you’re unlikely to get, at least, a B. Since that’s what you’re getting right now, ask your current teacher (Math and Social science) what they think about it. You may be taking a risk with your GPA and GPA is very important for both Bright Futures and Florida Public admission.
4 periods at high-level may lead to lower grades but fortunately those are a little less demanding than other APs (such as AP bio). How did you do in AP bio? How much work was that class for you?

Your class schedule is not weak, but your GPA is.

@MYOS1634‌ I live in Ohio, and the colleges I mentioned are the OOS colleges I really want to go to, AP bio I got a D first Sem and Brought that to a C second sem… Science is my weak subject

Oh, I see, I thought you were in-state for UCF.
Both colleges are quite unlikely but you can add them to your list of safeties, matches, and reaches once you’re done with that list.

I maintain my Florida and North Carolina recommendations, but I add Guilford.

You need to run the Net Price Calculator on each website (or register with the collegeboard website) before you add a college to your list: make sure it’s affordable for your family. If you don’t know how much your family can afford, run the NPCs for, say, Ohio U, Muskingum, Wittenberg, Bowling Green, Washington&Jefferson, Alma plus UCF, USF, and NCSU. Then bring the results to your parents. Expect them to get shocked at the costs. Then discuss what their budget is. Cull the schools that don’t fit.

A safety is a school you like, are 100% you can get into (ie., they’re not very selective and your stats place you in the top 25%), and is within budget (as discussed with your parents BEFORE).
A match is a school where you’re between average and the top 25% and it’s within budget. Your odds of getting in are about 50%.
A reach is a school where it’s unlikely you’ll get in but you’re still above the bottom 25% and you can afford it.
“just to see” schools (like UCF and NCSU) are schools where you’re in the bottom 25% and don’t have a hook, or need a competitive merit scholarship to attend.

One AP where you got a D+ to 4 APs does not bode well for your GPA and that’s killer for colleges. They are NOT impressed when you get a C in an Ap class. Do not take classes at Ap level unless you’re reasonably sure the lowest grade you’d get is a B and feel confident you should get more than that.
In what subjects are you getting A’s?
Can you take some of these AP stats as Honors or Regular instead?

@MYOS1634‌ science is just a killer for me, I want to major in Econ so it would make sense to take that, Math is my favorite subject, IB enviro is a joke at my school, AP gov is the only higher gov class in school, AP psych is more vocab and memory… I have a hook and my cousin currently attending NCSU says I’ll be fine, but I want a 12th opinion

Okay, sounds like you’ve picked your AP classes well. I don’t see a foreign language: many colleges will expect you to have reached Level 3 or 4: have you? If not, add that. With these stipulations, your schedule is fine. :)

Is your cousin at NCSU in-state? because as I said, the NC schools have different criteria for in-state and out of states (like many public universities) and, having been funded to educate NC students, have a cap on OOS students. Admissions for in-state applicant are totally different from admissions for OOS applicants. Furthermore, the fact your cousin attends doesn’t mean s/he knows how admissions work. I know it’s tempting to believe someone who’s attending the school but they really don’t know how admissions work. S/he would provide valuable information about the student experience, but do not rest on your cousin thinking you’ll be fine. The average admitted student had a 4.3 wGPA…

I have the Florida publics’ chart and the numbers I gave you for UCF are official. With 3.8w you’d have a fair shot, at 3.1 you don’t.

What Ohio public universities or private universities anywhere do you expect to apply to?

@MYOS1634 my cousin taught me a helpful trick when applying to NCSU that will boost my chances of getting in (I’m not mentioning it to the public or it will not work).

I am currently in Spanish 3 now and stopping after this year.

I plan to apply to Ohio University(my safety, Summer program that lead to being auto admit) and Ohio State

Everyone from my high school who applied early to NCSU got in, lowest GPA they accepted was a 2.73 from my school 2009-2014. 1 person this year got in and they applied early. I think the odds are with me when I apply to NCSU
