senior grades

I noticed that they still check your first semester of your senior grades? Do I still have to maintain B's or above? Because I am in top 3 percent of the class and got nomination and LOA, and I really want to keep that position and not let it fall because of my senior grades. I do have one C right now! Would that hurt me a lot?

No, if especially if you have A's or B's in every other class, I got a B- first semester and a C second in Pre-calculus, and I am at West Point. No worries, just keep up the good work.

Is that the only C you got?

Roger, but don't worry about it too much do the best you can, work hard and enjoy your senior year.

yay! My twin brother and I just got our appointments! Now, I just have to maintain b's and I will be good to go! YOO HOO!

Congrats, see you at the point.

peteyflow,

CONGRATULATIONS!! CONGRATULATIONS!!

One for you and one for your brother.

thank you!

My curriculum is going to be brutal next semester: any advice on which classes aren't needed? AP physics, IB Calc, CP Sociology (need to graduate), Creative Writing (need to graduate), Newspaper, AP Modern Writers (need to graduate), IB Stats.
that allows me no time for lunch..... provided that I stay enrolled in all of my classes.

Inhibitor: Brutal schedules are good training for plebe year. You will look back as a plebe and wonder what you did with all of your free time ;). However if you must drop something, maybe your newspaper commitment?? My son has told me that AP Stat was nothing like Statistics at WP, so that may be another thought. I would definitely keep the physics and calc.

Yeah inhibitor, I am dropping a lot of classes next year, because the secretary of congressman told me I can drop the classes that won't be preparing me at west point.

My first semester classes are : AP Biology, AP calculus, IB theory of knowledge, AP Spanish, AP World history, and AP english

Next semester, I will be dropping ap spanish, ap biology, and theory of knowledge, because I won't be needing them. And because I also have sport and a job that will cover my free time, so yup.... I mean we will be heading off at June 29 which is like right after school ends, so why not visit all your relatives and friends before I leave. I am self studying though for the classes that I will be taking in my plebe year. Anyways, I'll see you at West Point!

"because the secretary of congressman told me I can drop the classes that won't be preparing me at west point."
Make sure that you double check this advice with your regional commander in admissions so that they are not surprised when your next semester grades are reported.

Peteyflow:

Are you an IB student going for the IB diploma? Theory of Knowledge is a requirement for the IB diploma. You may not want to drop that class. If something should happen either before you report on R-day or after you report (injury, etc.), you may need that diploma to give you other choices. And it certainly won't hurt having it on your transcript.

I understand it means more work - my daughter was in IB. She says that being in IB has helped her at WP. She's been better able to handle the academic rigor.

Don't take your appointment for granted. Unexpected things happen. I know it's tempting to make your life easier, but it may not be worth the price in the long run.

i already dropped out of IB. that's the thing. that's why i don't need these classes. yes they will help, but I really want to save up money for 2900 dollars that my parents cant pay for.

Petey; as already suggested, you might really want to check into all this. Usually when you fill out your application for the SA and such, and provide your transcripts up to your junior year of high school, they usually ask to see the list of classes you are taking your senior year. I'm not saying that they would necessarily find out or hold it against you; but they based their decision on an appointment partially on your senior classes and your entire package. If all of a sudden you drop a lot of those classes, I'm not sure how it will impact. Some admin person in a congressman's office is not the person you should be asking. You want to check with the SA or such. There's been a lot of people lose their appointment in the past for a host of reasons. Not saying that this will having any impact. Just that this isn't the time to determine that because you have an appointment, you can drop all the hard classes and take home ec, woodworking, frisbee, and other classes. Not that there's anything wrong with some of these classes. Just that they aren't the college prep type classes that the SA's look for.

The thing is i already got appointment. And my school already sent in my senior classes, which are all ib classes that i'm taking right now in my first semster. They only asked for 1st semester transcript too. And yes I will be asking. But really, I am taking those hard classes in my first semester. Just not my second semester.

Yeah, my tenative 2nd semester schedule will definately will be run past USMA, but if they truly look at what classes I am taking senior year, then they'd be suprised that I picked up IB Stats and Newspaper. My original schedule was lighter, but in an effort to "beef" it up a bit, on the first day of school, I had the changes made. I'd already sent in my 6th semester transcripts.

Peteyflow - You do understand that you will be required to submit your 8th semester transcript (including class rank) before R-day? It's interesting how you have gone from being worried about having 1 C this semester, to feeling it is OK to drop 3 classes next semester.....

peteyflow,

Do NOT change the schedule for next semester without checking in with Admissions first. You absolutely need to inform them first. Find out that it will be okay before you do something that could possibly jeopardize your appointment. Make an informed decision rather than one based on a comment from somebody who really doesn't know the facts.

Good luck. Let us know what Admissions says.

I havent asked yet, but even if I drop classes my rank will remain the same. Because I am still taking hard classes, and my grades would be even better. Yes, I will check up with Admissions.
