When people say that they've heard of admissions being rescinded based on Cs or Ds, are they referring to one term grade or the final course grade? And if one bad term grade can rescind an acceptance, does it matter if the grade goes up in the subsequent term(s)?

Also, would it be better to notify/justify (and draw attention to) grades that have dropped, or would it be better to simply wait it out and see what happens?

Hardly anyone gets rescinded...simple as that. People think its a common practice, however, someone really has to go out of their way to screw up to get their admissions decision rescinded.

Ok, well, I wasn't sure because people kept saying that a D or several Cs are likely to get your acceptance rescinded. (Still dunno if they mean a term grade or the final grade...)

I think it depends on what your high school sends out. Have you seen what your transcript looks like? (It might be worth asking for one if you haven't. Some people have said they've reviewed transcripts that had flat out wrong GPA's and grades on them.) Usually transcripts will only have the semester grade. However, I remember one CC'er said that at the end of the year, his counselor accidentally sent a college a copy of his report card instead of his transcript, which contained stuff like sub-optimal final exam grades, even though his final grades were fine, and his admissions got rescinded. So it seems like colleges care about any grades that they see, the question for you now is, which grades are that?

yeah DCforMe my midyear report was my report card. My final grades were all A's and A-'s but they see my exam grades which had a C+ and B-... I wish they just sent the semester grades for my school

They won't rescind your application for lower exam grades (many people do less well on their exam grades, but overall have great grades). If your final grades are all As, they won't do it, especially not with just a C+ and B-. I would be very highly surprised if they did.
It's not a common occurance, and usually only occurs if a student is seriously slacking off (like from all A's to all D's). You aren't being lazy--you just didn't do as well on a couple exams. Don't worry!

poetrygirl, I'm unfortunately not into college yet, still waiting to hear back from all ten. Just commenting on how some schools do send report cards instead of just semester grades :P

I've already started the senior slide though, from A's to B's but that's not too big of a concern I guess.

I know someone from my school who got into UCLA but kept on getting C's and D's during his second semester senior year, and he ended up being rescinded from his dream school and had to go to a local college.

razzle: just from reading CC, I have realized that UC schools treat senior grades differently than the rest of the country, so a student cannot use their criteria to determine what will happen with "senior slump"...Here on the east coast, the only reason a student has been rescinded has been for an arrest or disciplinary action......Granted D's or F's could raise a few eyebrows and may lead to probation 1st semester freshman year....
