I had been trying to complete EdX’s The Ancient Greek Hero for English, but I’ve fallen incredibly behind because I’ve been sick as a dog, on/off, since the end of July. As of today, we’re trying to figure out whether it’s multiple sclerosis or something else, and I got a CT to see whether the thing in my kidney is just a cyst or something else. No matter what it is, many days I’m bed-ridden, trying to get rid of headaches and body pain. The fatigue is so bad that I lose the ability to concentrate, speak coherently, or even think. I mean, try holding a conversation when you’re continuously losing your train of thought, forgetting things, saying “broaf” instead of loaf of bread, etc… It’s made it nearly impossible to do the readings, God forbid the analyzing and writing. Sometimes, I’d just curl up, cry, and scream rather than get up out of bed.
The point is, I don’t think I can keep doing the course and finish it on time. Maybe I could do it as an enrichment activity, but not a course. I’m hoping to replace it with TESOL certification courses so I could become a certified teacher of English as a second language.
Do you think colleges will see my TESOL courses and certificate as a suitable alternative or impressive enough that the lack of a traditional 12th grade English course doesn’t matter, even though it does not focus on literature or expository prose?
I submitted an excerpt of my novel to YoungArts, and if I win an award, I’m hoping this will prove my ability to write and hopefully, by extension, understand literature.
Thank you.
