Senior language class?

Hey, I'm not sure if i posted in the right thread or not
but hopefully i did. haha

Anyways, I'm currently am a junior and I'm taking AP english
this year. But the thing is that in senior year the only option
is to go into the other AP english since there is two different
types. And I really do not want to take that AP english class in senior
year.

So i was wondering, if i just took a writing elective, which counts
for a language course in my school, like creative writing would that limit
my chances of being accepted into ivy league colleges?

thanks for the help and hope i did not confuse anyone.

As long as you have four years of English as designated by your high school, I’m sure you’ll be fine.

What you are taking this year is AP English Comp. Traditionally your sr year you take English Lit, AP or non. Taking another English elective instead of English Comp may not make your application the most competitive.
First, ask your GC if taking the elective your sr yr would satisfy your graduation requirements. If it does, call the admissions office of one or two of your targe schools and ask how this would impact your application package.

It will depend on how your school categorizes the creative writing class. At my kids’ high school, creative writing is considered an elective, in the same group with art and music, not as an English class. Students therefore can’t use it to fulfill the “4 years of English” requirement.

Even if your hs groups the creative writing class with the English classes, you should ask your guidance counselor about what the admissions committees will likely think at the schools where you’re applying. Ivy League schools generally want you to be taking the “most rigorous curriculum available” at your school. Normally that would mean an AP course rather than a “regular” class. However, if you are a very talented poet or short-story writer and could submit some of your work as an arts supplement to your application, that might justify taking the creative writing class instead.

^^Yeah I know Ivy leagues do
want you to challenge yourself by taking AP classes.
But the Senior Year AP class will probably bring down
my GPA and I don’t wanna take the risk.

However, I think there is a Honors class for senior
year so i might just go to the Honors English class
instead of creative writing.

thanks so much for answering my question!
