I'm hoping some of you can advise me on how to proceed for my senior schedule next year. Due to this damned block scheduling , I cannot take the classes that I want, so I will have to schoose between them.

I wanted to do AP Macro next year becuase I am truly interested in the class and believe I would be good at it. However, I only have 2 years of science, and I don't want it to seem as if my courseload has been unbalanced when I apply next year.

Although I don't plan to major in anything science related, should I still be taking a science course next year? If so, I have to choose between physics and AP Bio. I think I would be terrible at physics since math is not my strong suit, and Bio seems much more appealing.

If I had my way, I would take AP Macro and AP Bio, but the ridiculous scheduling system will not allow this. Should I follow my social studies passion and take Macro, or fulfill the "recommended" science program?

Thanks for any advice/opinions/warnings.......

if you dont think you'll major in the sciences and don't think you'll do well in the physics class, don't take it. if you don't enjoy it, you'll be miserable...and if you don't do well, it'll just make things worse. personally, i took ap chem, bio, and physics during hs...bio just to round things out. i did relatively well, but i hated the class since the subject was not particularly enjoyable to me. :)

I've had to make a similar decision, and it was really difficult. my 2 cents: in general, two years of science is required, 3 is reccomended. So how important is it to you to go beyond the norm? I say go with your heart. Macro still looks great on your transcript, and you'll have more fun. if you do go with science, I say AP bio because A) you'll probably do better and B) it's another AP. Of course, there are arguments for going with science, and for going with physics. Sorry, that probably didn't help much. But i tried.

Thanks everyone. You're all right about not taking a class in which I would be miserable in. I've eliminated physics from the equation, since I'd be horrible at it, and it's not an AP.

Moni, I've never heard of taking a high school class online. Do you know where I could find info on this?

As for going above the requirement, I'm applying to some very selective schools, so I'll probably need to take 3 years just to make sure my courseload looks solid.

Ah, the things we do to get into college............

I know I'm a little late, but I agree with the online course option. I'll be taking two online courses this year. I've already previewed them all and I know I'm going to have a blast! You could take AP Macroeconomics online and AP Bio at school. I recommend Apex Learning. (www.apexlearning.com) I think you'll do great since you'll be interested in it. It costs about 300 dollars per class. If you go to the website, you can demo the WHOLE FIRST UNIT of the course. After the class is over, you'd report your grade back to your school and get it added to your GPA. ;) Hope that helps.
