Hey everyone so I’m in a bit of a dilemma with my schedule for next year. I’m taking regular chemistry this year as a junior and I really like it and do well in it. I took physics freshman year, it was my least favorite science. Classes I’m definitely taking for next year are
AP BC Calc
English H
AP Gov
Accounting H
Study Hall
… I either have room for AP Chem or regular physics… I really like chem and am interested in it but ap chem seems like so much work and people say physics Is a good class for college. I really don’t know what I’m majoring in either so I can’t be too direct and specific with what I’m taking in high school, as I’m trying to leave options open. Would it hurt me to not take AP chem layer in college if I pursue, say chemical engineering? I also don’t want to kill myself with work next year, as it’s my senior year and I want to have a life…
Thanks
What are your college goals?
Have you had biology? Many schools like to see bio, chem and physics. I don’t think what you do between chem and physics will matter in college - lots of time they recommend for students to do standard track of science and not take AP credits to skip requirements, especially if you need to continue on with higher chem.
In your situation, it doesn’t really matter. You seem to like chem so AP Chemistry.
AP Chem since you like it and are likely to do better in it (especially since you haven’t had physics in a long time). I do notice that you don’t have a foreign language class in your schedule - if you’re applying for a selective college, you’ll be expected to have reached Level 4 (or AP).
My son is a ChemE major at NU and took AP Chem and AP Physics C Senior year - and he tells people in your situation that If you are serious about ChemE - then take AP Physics C.
added in edit - But as an earlier poster noted - everyone is different so take what you enjoy. And my son would also agree to enjoy your senior year - he sure did!
