So my friend and I were having a discussion, and I figured it'd be a good point to bring to CC for discussion.

How would class superlatives look on a college application? Obviously they wouldn't fall under the "academic honors" on the Common App, but on other apps/supps/etc., how would the adcom view such "awards?"

We were talking specifically about the less "academic" superlatives - Class Flirt, Funniest, Best Eyes, Best Looking, etc. - as opposed to Most Likely to Suceed and Teacher's Pet and stuff like that, however opinions all around would be nice.

One of us was arguing that these are merely "fluff" awards, and adcoms would scoff that someone would even think to mention them at all, while the other was saying that they could generate a chuckle and add a more "human" side to the applicant's profile.

personally i think they're pretty pointless... but my school doesn't do that stuff until yearbooks come out anyway (which is at the end of the school year)

Our school doesn't do that until yearbooks come out anyway, but even if they did come out before college apps were due, I still wouldn't put them on my apps. That's just my opinion -- whenever I see those things on apps they always just look like filler or "fluff."

i think it really depends on the adcoms. some of them might think that being voted "best all around" or something like that shows that your not some freak who is glued to their physics text book all day. but your ec's could do that too. its not really impressive anyway, just shows your popular and stuff like that. lol at my school, we actually vote for people who are "most likely to be in prison 5 years from now".

I didn't bother putting mine on my app (Most Likely to Win a Nobel Prize) because it's only within the school, not judged on anything except the class' perception (in most cases). I didn't think that it would add anything.
